0ver 13000km now.
this morning i got the standard 3-4 kick in the ass.
then slowing for the next turn, i got the whack a mole thump on the next few downshifts
I might as well be a teenage boy learning to drive dads stickshift on my way to my first date. Its like it doesn't know what the hell it supposed to be doing.

Its a shit gearbox for colder weather.
I have to respectfully disagree in my experience - maybe it hasn't been cold enough here, but the only thing I've noticed in colder weather (down to mid to upper 20's a couple of times) is ONE shift when I'm first starting out that is not smooth. After that, it shifts normally for the rest of the drive. Very occasionally I will get some odd shift feeling but that has nothing to do with cold - and it has happened VERY infrequently. I'm closing in on 10,000 miles now.

I am in WI and even though it is warm right now, the week I picked my Ranger up it was below 10 degrees and the transmission is butter..

We have had a few nights and mornings around 10 but I do warm my truck up for a few but have never felt a hard shift.

The highest mark I give on the Ranger goes to the transmission. It is way smoother than my Colorado and certainly better than the Taco. It to me is the best thing about the Ranger so far.

Now I have had mine long either.

I have been critical on a few things on the Ranger like the app and owners website but the transmission is not one of those things.

My experience has been good as well, at least down to about the 15-20 deg. F. range. They do self-calibrate, so people should wait a few thousand miles and operate the transmission in various modes. Even then, however, there seem to be a handful that aren't operating smoothly and from this and other threads, Ford seems to have trouble debugging these. While they may technically be operating well enough that Ford aren't obligated to replace or rebuild them, I can certainly understand the owners being unhappy with their vehicles.

I hope mine settles down after I get some additional miles on it. The shifts are at times a bit rough, but nothing I couldn't live with. I am more concerned with the little bit of chatter/vibration when shifting from 1st to 2nd/3rd range when under moderate acceleration. That would take a lot more getting used to if it does not improve.

Noticed some at the start, but nothing I was alarmed about as I was aware of the "learning" time for them.

I had the TSB applied to mine with less than 1,000 miles on it back in April. It helped a little bit, but still had an awful low speed shutter effect. Seemed to be lugging a bit because it was probably in too high of a gear. I had intended to take it to the dealer while on some holiday down time. But recently it has settled down a lot. I have around 8,300 miles on of now and it shifts very well and very little to no shutter. I’m not taking it in and going to keep driving it.

Well, it looks like the transmission/driveline shuddering problem brought up in the 5G forum is actually getting media attention:

https://news.pickuptrucks.com/2019/12/yeah-that-vibration-in-the-2019-ford-ranger-is-annoying.html

TLDR - they've verified it on three trucks and have sent two of them to Ford to look at, with no response yet.
I do feel that shudder a very little and mainly when autostart is enabled. It does not feel like transmission shudder to me. It could be but it doesnt feel like it.

It will be interesting to see what, if anything, Ford says about it now that it's getting media attention. The article linked to a thread on this forum that I hadn't seen yet, and that thread linked to yet another, and of course people have also been mentioning it in this thread, so it seems to be affecting more than just a small handful of people.

I haven't noticed it yet in our truck, so either it isn't there in all trucks, or maybe it varies in strength and is too faint to feel in some cases.

Whats funny about that article is they mention common characteristics of the truck. That is what some people have been told by dealers.

The initial takeoff shutter happens as you get rolling after the engine has restarted. I've noticed it with the auto stop on and off. I think I must be starting to get used to it because it doesn't seem to bother me much anymore. I'm at almost 3k miles.

My 2019 Ranger has about 13,000 miles on it. Drive train is smooth as glass EXCEPT for one situation. To get to and from the highway I have to pass through a small town with a 25 mph limit for about a mile on Main Street. When I'm doing 25 I can sense the onset of vibration but it's barely noticeable. If, however, someone pulls out ahead of me and I need to back off the throttle slightly, the drivetrain really starts vibrating and bucking. Continues until I get back over 25. Doesn't seem to occur at speeds below 20 mph. Only that sweet (unsweet?) spot just below 25. Vehicle is always completely warmed up when this happens. Hard to tell from the driver's seat whether it's the engine, transmission or some area farther back producing it, but my sense is that it's the transmission. I really like the drivetrain otherwise and have been surprised how much more capable the dinky 2.3 is compared to the 2.5 in the Subaru Forester it replaces for me. I liked the Forester, but it was a real farm tractor in terms of performance. You needed a BIG gap to pass somebody.
