I have accepted that Ford is ok with 220F but it was weird considering our old 2016 Honda Pilot AWD would rarely break 200F towing the same trailer we have and that had a ZF 9 speed. I think the hottest I ever saw was like 210F maybe? Meanwhile in stop and go I can get 210F in the Ranger during the summer. Towing 220-230F seems normal the same trailer.

Funny enough, the flying wrenches guy (I think) showed a tear down of a 10R80 they were rebuilding due to all these 10R80 issues and the clutches looked new. Was something like a 100k trans too. He said they usually don't replace the clutches and mentioned the CDF drum and valve body as the main issues.

He does make his own parts though

Just think the $10k 10R80 plus $4k core charge is a bit excessive for the Ranger.
No need to worry. I'm used to my Frontier running much cooler in most conditions(with the exception of OffRoad Travel) where the transmission likes to ride 150°-160° F. Mind you the normal operating temperature for Nissan Automatic Transmissions is between 122°-176° F. of course I get to see the Torque Converter Outlet Temperature and the Pan Temperature at the same time. Watching both have certainly shown how the Transmission Temperature is affected greatly by how one is driving in different situations.

Generally torque converters generate the lions share of the heat in automatic transmissions.

All depends on the procedure to replace the Radiator. Though it may not seem necessary to recover the Refrigerant, it may be required to remove the AC Condenser to do the job right

I would find a different shop at that point
That was a misunderstanding from the girl inside no Freon needed the Radiator is in and preliminary thoughts is temps are down and staying in the mid to low 190s. I will pull a utility trailer this weekend and get back with the findings. Next up the trans and dip stick.

Good to hear, can't wait for the towing impressions. If all goes as planned my rad will go in next Saturday. The intercooler just arrived, rad gets here Monday.

Well on the ride home yesterday it got up to 95F and I never seen a temp above 199 and it would quickly cool back down to 196-197F. Interestingly enough when you get on it it quickly drops to 192-194F, I will have a small test this weekend with m 7x14 utility trailer and the Bad Boy. But this is only 2300lbs at best in weight in the next couple of weeks I will be installing the trans pan and dipstick so this should help with the trans temps when pulling. I will say that the trans temps I never see over 192F why unloaded.

Okay now this is just a small test of the new radiator because the trailer and the lawnmower are not even half of what my new camper weighs. The trailer and mower is about 2800lbs give or take a few 100, with everything loaded in the truck about 600lbs. As for temps I was seen with temps outside around 90 to 94 temps on cooling stayed anywhere from 199 to 211 but anytime this temp was reached it quickly cooled back down. Temps in the trans hovered about the same reaching a max of 215 in the hills of East Texas, now it too much longer for the temps in the Trans to cool back down when they reached their respective max. Speed during this trip I keep at 55 to just over 65.

Next up is the installation of the trans pan and dipstick and the next thing I will tow is the trailer so this will be the first test of the completed mods more to follow once this is completed. Overall I am satisfied with the radiator and it's cooling ability the real test will come with the camper in tow.

Guessing the thermostat is probably keeping things where they are but as you mentioned, it cooled back down quickly. Probably because the thermostat would fully open around that temp.

Hopefully my replacement Mishi radiator arrives on time to have it installed this weekend as planned. Crazy how damaged FedEx got it.

I'm going to be doing the intercooler too. Figure cooler air = cooler combustion and exhaust temps too.

Curious how street driving will behave, guessing not much different than now due to the thermostat.

To be honest I tested that when you stop on it unloaded it cools down quick but not so much when loaded with a trailer. I did have a thought of changing the thermostat for something cooler ut worry about it affecting other things. It is my understanding that this stat is set at 197.5 maybe one closer to 195 would do better?
