Here is my ReadyBrake with Blue Ox baseplate. Haven't towed it yet. A pro shop did the install.

BillinPCB-do you have the FX4?

No. Mine is an XLT 4X4.

Hi Folks,

Just towed my Ranger behind our Diesel pusher motor home. Tucson area to Prescott on back roads. Ranger worked perfectly! Toe base plates from Roadmaster. Wiring of brake lights and turn signals worked as planned too! whew!

Hi Phil thanks for your input, I too am going to flat tow my Ranger Lariat behind RV, my question is with accessory power Outlets with keyless ignition. I’m purchasing the Blue Ox Patriot 2 braking system which needs constant 12v power. Am I able to use one of the 2 12 volt power outlets or do they “time out” after a certain time.
thanks Pete

Hi Pete,

Unfortunately the power outlets time out. I had to run a hot wire from the battery to resolve the time out.

I just tried out towing my Ranger and thought the brakes weren’t working quite right. I’m using a ReadyBrake and this is my third installation so I’m pretty sure it’s installed right.

So after I unhooked, it parked at the top of my driveway and did the whole Flat Tow procedure then released the parking brake. As I started rolling down the hill the first three brake applications were fine but the fourth time the effort required went up a lot because the vacuum was exhausted so the booster was ineffective. This is not unusual and most supplemental braking system instructions advise making multiple brake applications before towing to empty the vacuum reservoir. But, then, much to my surprise, there was a whirring noise under the the hood and the brakes applied with a vengeance.

I suspect there is an electric vacuum pump somewhere to provide vacuum in certain situations but I just can’t find it anywhere and there is no fuse designated for a pump. I know that ReadyBrake advises pulling a certain fuse to deactivate the pump on the Ford C Max to avoid erratic braking.

Does anyone know where the pump might be on this thing? It’s probably shown in the service manual but I don’t have one.

Hello Phil and all , I just finished my 12 volt power connection. After looking at all the threads, I decided to run a #14 gauge wire in from the passenger side and pass it under the console and drilled a 1 inch hole on side of console for 12 v power I’m using a 5 amp fuse at the battery as that is what Blue Ox suggested I use. I ran wire in front of Radiator and connected to battery. See the pictures included pretty easy job . next project will be BO base plates.

Finished installing the RVi towed battery charger so that completes my toad accessories.
Roadmaster base plate. Wireless lighting. Air Force One braking.

Good to go but no where to go. We were going to see family in Florida after two weeks in New Orleans but it looks like that may not happen. Have to see how everything goes with the virus.

Some pics of my install.

Me too. Very frustrating, all dressed up and nowhere to go.

And, gas only $1.45!

Do you have a charge line from the MH to keep the Ranger battery charged, I towed a Escape without one and the battery would die on a long tow. With the Ranger I have read that you will loose neutral tow if without a full battery.

The OCD in me would relabel that from 120W to 60W. :)

took my ranger for a test ride behind the motor home and all worked great !
blue ox base plate and ready brake . home made wiring like a trailer connection front to back and installed a set of new led 1157 style lights in the blank on the stock tail lights .
never felt like it was back there

dave
Dave did you happen to take a photo of your tail light install? Would like to see where you drill the hole for bulb .
thanks
