When using tow/haul mode for every day driving does it effect gas mileage?
Ford seems to think so, that is why it is a separate shift strategy from the regular one. I think the regular shift pattern was designed for EPA milage first, and drivability second. Also the reason there are twice as many gears as are needed. I know very little about tunes, but if there was one that utilized the Tow/Haul shift strategy with the regular down shifts and then added in the T/H down shifts when in T/H, I'd look into that.

Man this brought back a memory. I have a Centerforce dual friction clutch in my 66 Mustang and yeah stop and go traffic in so cal was a pain, my younger self couldn't understand why people who have muscle cars don't daily them. Here I am, with that same car still and haven't driven it in probably a year.

A buddy of mine and I got into an arm chair kinda talk where we kept one upping each other on our next engine build. He ended up going twin turbo on his fox body and I was working on a 408w. I got the long block done, Eagle forged crank an H-beam rods, JE Forged pistons, zero gap rings, AFR 205, well about $8k later I just ran out of money and sold it off to build the 306 that is still in it.

My 66 is a humble car, rat rod'ish because I was broke and it is a time capsule to this day of that time of my life. 8.20's on the 1/8th on street tires but man, lump cam, high compression, smiles for days. She just needs TLC as I haven't weekly driven it in over 10 years. I think the Mustang will hang out in storage until my twins are at least teens. Being self employed means the work never ends either.

I get more interested in considering trading in the Tremor for a Ranger Raptor (RR) over building the Mustang again at this moment, but I can't ever ever get rid of her. She is a special car. I also dig the Tremor, don't really want to get rid of it either even for a Raptor unless the cost of ownership exceeds logic outside of warranty. The reason I love the 5g Ranger is the interior is just modern enough. It bugs me to have a Tesla screen in the 6g Ranger. I can get over it in a RR but no other trim will get me out of my 5g Ranger.
I love this comment and coming across like-minded people!

Man I totally see where you’re coming from in every single way! When we are young, as in teens in 20s, we are so arrogant and full of ourselves… We know the only right way and of course that means having a manual transmission and if you’re really legit, making sure you have a racing clutch and other supporting parts.

I did absolutely love my Steeda short throw shifter. I thought it was so amazing how little movement was required, and how the spring loaded mechanism virtually made missing third gear impossible! Freaking awesome especially the bolt stops, so you can just hammer it down as hard as you want on that shift and never have to worry about anything because the bolt will protect the transmission.

I thought a lot about raptor versus tremor… My thought is definitely one of mixed feelings. I can’t even imagine what is possible with the raptor and I’m sure it’s just out of this world. But there would be a certain level of pride to come out a raptor with a tremor that you put all your effort into, and then smoke it!!

with the right tune and supporting parts, I gotta think that 90% of the Raptors will be victims… Then the guys who have done some decent mods on the Raptors… 10% where it just isn’t gonna happen… They will absolutely get the W.

but I’m also thinking that with the savings of not buying the raptor, that money could even make it so even a decently modded raptor would be a victim and get the big L, but that’s depending on how insane you are I happen to be when it comes to putting together a very coherent and optimal beast with the 2.3 L.

For right now, I’m sticking with that plan and we shall see how I feel after a performance tune, then adding the upgraded intercooler and charge pipes along with high flow cat downpipe.

Then it starts to be, do I think of setting it up to run E 85 with no issues? I mean we’re talking potentially 450RWHP And 470 RWTQ.

having that, while it’s shifting like a masterpiece (in this case, shifting how we would prefer in our 20s… Chirping the hell out of each gear) I think it would then maybe boil down to the driver and whether they hooked up or not. Then again, started for WDH and attraction shouldn’t be an issue…

with that said, if you are spinning all four wheels, then just picture me looking like Wayne and Garth when they meet Alice Cooper… Slightly modified…

“I’m not worthy… I’m not worthy!”
that being said, the Raptors is more than just speed… I do love the seats and other parts. So it’s a tough one if the time should come. I get a lot of satisfaction and pride out of creating this tremendous power house… But I won’t lie, walking out to a raptor would automatically put a huge smile on my face.

Then again, every time I walk out to my truck, I have a big ass smile. But I need to match my wheels and tires with the extra 2 inches of lift all the way around the truck (that’s in addition to the .9 inches of extra height that comes with a tremor). But let’s just call it 3 inches

It’s borderline but I’m going to go ahead and do 33 x 12.50 General grabbers

I know I can make the room for them, but the borderline part is that I want to go ahead and go with 20 inch wheels… I just feel like 33 is given enough side wall to not be problematic. I’ve seen it and loved it.

But since it’s going to stick out 2 inches, I will absolutely put fender flares… Might even be raptor style or at least Rauch… Something similar, because I like the idea of having the truck actually look wider, and also have a wider track! My ideal set up is fender flares with the tires sticking out another 3/4 of an inch or so

That being said, I don’t want ridiculously huge fender flares. I actually wish air designs built one exactly how I liked it because I feel like their product is quite amazing. But there’s some other great ones such as the ones I listed, among others

Yeah, don't want to keep this off topic for the thread, but the 5g Ranger is a great platform, the Tremor package was great from the factory. Just wish the 10r80 wasn't having all these issues because it is such a good truck otherwise. I have a 1" level and 1" wheel spacers along with 285/70/17. Wanted it to be stealthy but sometimes I want a more aggressive appearance. It probably looks stock to non-tremor owners which I like.

Going back on topic, tow/haul mode upshifts the way it should have in drive, I actually like the downshifts, maybe why my brake pads are still ok lol. I am guessing I will need them soon though, need to check. Hoping they last long enough for me to have the money for big brakes. Probably Wilwood since I am worried about some overseas brand going under and not being able to get rotors in the future.

I use tow mode sometimes but I find the downshifting too aggressive, I just lock out gears when I need to downshift or use Sport mode

However, I have the Livernois tow tune on all the time...

I was just curious if anybody runs with the tow mode on all the time. It seems like my transmission shifts better and it doesn't feel "luggy" at lower speeds when I do.
I hit the downshift shift button 5 times when starting off in the city. It locks the tranny out from shifting any higher than 6th. until I change it for the highway or speeds over 50 mph, where I shift up to a higher ratio.

LOL I alwasy thought the S was for Snow Mode! I said that to the salesman when went for a test drive he almost flipped out on me! lol
However I do use the S in the winter during snow storms I feel it gives me better control while driving in deep snow.
Tow mode only when traveling with the TT. I don't really pay much attention to the shifting.

I actually do that in the summer to make sure RPM stay around 2500rpm in the city for the AC lol It works fine but when it is 109F outside, it helps get things cold faster. Otherwise, T/H does the trick without doing much for me. That or sometimes I just put it in Sport mode. Only reason I do not do Sport all the time is so the fun factor doesn't wear off.

I am guessing they change shift points so normal drive feels good. I would also think tire height makes a difference with the harshness of downshifts but of course personal preference is all that matters.

I’m with you 100%! I love the down shifting and holding the gears! It keeps that power available without any needed shifting, sounds good, and does help out with braking. It makes for a much better driving experience IMO.

I’m starting to feel like the tow mode is sort of the clever or poor man’s very mild tune! I’m fully down with that!

But given the fact that the tunes also take care of some of the transmission stuff, I am just absolutely excited and cannot wait until I have all of the supporting parts to justify picking up a Livernois tune… Probably four of them to kind of cover every level of aggressive driving along with some economy and towing.

The truck already tows well but I just can’t even imagine how it will tow with an additional approximately 75+ HP and up to 100 additional TQ, with potentially even better shifts to go along with it. Most of the stuff I tow will not even feel like it’s there and when I have my large set up, which is in the low 7000 pound range, with my electronic brake controller, and the lift that I put on the front and back to maintain the rake (already have), I’ll find the appropriate sized drop hitch and there should be no sag look. It will bring it down I’m sure but certainly won’t be sagging!

[oh yes and I also like the idea of putting larger brakes on the vehicle. It should look awesome with the 33 x 12.50R 20 set up with glossy black and just a slight red accent matching the tremor nostrils accent, in a 9 inch wide wheel with 0.00 offset. Should kick it out around 2 inches and maybe just beyond with those wide tires, and then I’ll put some fender flares because I’m hoping for around 0.5”-1” of tires poking out past the fender flares]

oh yeah and I’m running the stock tire still with the 2 inches of increased lift all the way around, and 1.5 inch spacers. I really love the silhouette of the truck from behind or the front. With the flares, I feel like it will make the truck look wider itself, and then it will have quite a nice wide track. A little raptor-esque.

There is a hell of a lot to look forward to!

Chris:

What?!?! Come again…

I’m not familiar with you (what is your definition of a troll? ).

do you have an issue that I don’t write one sentence replies? I use voice to text, so unfortunately they end up a little longer than I would like. But also, attention span with many people are beyond short… It’s kind of a combination

If it is a joke, then awesome and well done! (seriously)?

If not, then::
  • Im not here for your bullshit; I’m here to learn and be around CAR ENTHUSIASTS!
  • This is a conversation between someone else and me. Go ahead and back out.
  • You are the problem with sites that are otherwise awesome! There’s always that guy… It’s you
Head back to your full-time TikTok scrolling and videos; you won’t have to think. This is obviously too substantive for you.

So PLEASE please tell me that you are trolling me/messing with me because I am a really nice guy and have no room for cheap shots. if you are joking, then that was solid!

This is your chance to not be that jerkoff who stops in out of nowhere and says some BS.

PS Here’s a picture. Do I look like I just talk and don’t follow through with mods? I don’t think that’s a troll

All the best,
Kyle

well, it sounds like Chris may be just a smart ass and that’s fine because I am as well.

It’s just not very clear, which is why I replied, just to get an understanding.

And just because someone has 2000+ Posts it doesn’t make them the ‘Godfather’!

(Oldschool movie style reference, so more in a joking manner; not the classic 3 part movie)

I am legitimately here for fun/one of my few favorite hobbies AND to be around good people, just like you, Grumpaw… Dereku, and everyone else who has been VERY helpful and great!

Time for the two of you to put the gloves on, get in the ring, and work it out.......
