tow hitch/ receiver- self install or professional

^^meant “trailer hitch” … I’m sure you figured that, but before the trolls come on the attack.

For those of you who didn’t have the tow package included but added it later, did you self-install or go professional? If self-install, how was the process for you? For professional, where did you go? Ford? Uhaul? What was cost like?

Self install. Be aware that you will need 2 small c clamps to hold the bumper up. The hitch mounts to existing bolts. Very simple otherwise.

Self install. Amazon has the draw tite hitch (76275) for our trucks for $119. Way cheaper than I could get it done locally!

Installation of the Curt is similarly very easy. The OEM receiver is said to be a bit more of a pain, but IMO looks a bit better in the end.

Not on the Ranger but my last vehicle without a hitch, I called around to price out a hitch install. Prices were 3x the cost of the hitch. One place I called asked why I didn’t do it myself. So I did. Mainly I didn’t want to deal with the wiring but was able to find a plug and play harness that made it easy to install. Only took a couple hrs.
Now I just get the tow package. Time is too valuable to save a few bucks.

When I got my truck there was some type of shortage of factory parts so a lot of Rangers just didn't come with tow packages, about $500 option.

I paid just under $400 for a Curt equivalent with factory looking/location wiring. Lifetime warranty from the shop which has been around forty years and services consumer and fleet vehicles.

Curt self install here. If you are doing it yourself on the ground, a floor jack and an extra set of hands would make it easier. Ditto on the two clamp recommendation. Curt instructions had that as a step.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. I was looking at it and thought this looks way too easy to do. Must be missing something. Called around and couldn’t believe the quotes of cost to install. Self-install it is! Thanks!!
