do you put that many miles on every year that requires new tires? Or, do you like to try out new tires or keep maximum tread?

I have a matching wheel/tire on the spare and rotate it in since technically you should replace the spare tires after X years (10?). I'd rather get use out of that tire rather than just throw it away. I definitely don't want to be in a situation where I need to use the spare and it is in a compromised state. Also rotating in the spare you'll go longer between buying new tires.
Compared to most other drivers I drive a s*** ton. Also here in Colorado we have a lovely traction law for winter conditions. Just one small part of that law is making sure your tires have a minimum of 6/32 of tread depth. When it comes to off-road use you probably don't want your tread to be lower than that either.

Channel 9 news did a story on that traction law, 1st initiated in 2019 60 tiks were issued to non commercial vehicles, 13 in 2020 , 23 in 2021. Good law but generally not enforced unless you cause an accident. and that law is seasonal, Sept thru May and for mountain travel. Way to many people continue to drive on inadequate or worn tires. I think some performance tires don't even have 6/32 depth when new and I've seen corvettes driving on I-70 in a snowstorm.

When doing a rotation, you should use this pattern (though at Discount Tire, we did fronts straight back and crossed the rears up) because it puts each tire on each spot on the vehicle. This will give you the best wear over time.

This advice, of course, is dependent on non-directional tires. That changes what you can do.

Cross rotation keeps the tires quieter over time as it helps even out the wear better. That being said, most dealer shops just do the front to back hack. Tires get noisier sooner and it is easier to upsell a new set of tires and alignment to the consumer before the tires have reached the end of life.

I got a ticket for tread depth in NJ actually. But it was more because I was driving an ice cream truck in the middle of night with the music on more than having bald tires.
Would you like an ice cream officer?

You're not wrong about it being a seasonal law but it's still applies for heavy winter conditions. You could still be outside of those particular months and all of a sudden the law could applied just because weather conditions when AWOL for some reason in the middle of July which is not unheard of in the Colorado Rockies

Are you sure it was an ice cream truck you were driving or a candy truck you were driving? Asking for a friend

It's time to rotate my tires again. I do it every 5k miles in hopes of maybe getting a tire replacement under warranty because my Wildpeaks are no way gonna last the 55k miles they promise. But regardless if I get it or not I'll rotate them.

I took it to the dealer last time just cause it's a pita to do in the garage and to have it in the system, but I assumed they would do a cross pattern as that is what multiple websites recommend for 4wd trucks! They didn't, they did a straight front to back (I marked the tires). So I'm not even going to bother with them anymore, I will just put my own rotation into Fordpass so it's sorta official. So I was thinking I would do straight side-to-side rotation this time because of dealer not going cross and also because I do one-wheel peals everywhere and the pass tire wears down more. What rotation pattern does everyone like for the 4wd Ranger?
I've always have my ranger service by my dealer. If I wanted a different rotation pattern I gave them a copy of that pattern and requested that they use that pattern. No issues.

No I mean I was playing the ice cream jingle out of the loud speaker on the roof.
playing the jingle in the middle of the night reminds me of a neighbor many years back who exhibited signs of mental instability mowing his lawn at 3:00 am and with a push mower so no headlight. But sounds like the police had no appreciation for "good humor"

That's what I do, rears straight to front, cross fronts to rear.

My home method with two small floor jacks. It reads harder than it is:
1. Jack up left side of truck. LR to LF, LF to LR. Only snug 3 lugs on the LR because it's coming back off. Lower left side of truck.
2. Jack up right side of truck. RR to FR. Do not bolt RF to RR. Lower jack on RF.
3. Move jack from RF to LR, raise LR and remove wheel. This is why you don't put all the lugs on and fully tighten.
4. Put RF on LR. Put LF (that was briefly on LR) on RR.

Of course while I have the individual tires off I scrub the back side of the wheels with wheel cleaner, the back side of the tires with Bleche-Wite, and Armor All after that. I've never been accused of having a dirty vehicle.
