Hey all. I've been looking Michelin CrossClimate2 Tires for my Ranger. In the summer here in Florida it rains a lot. Thier biggest tires they make in this one is 245/65R17. Currently my truck is equipped with 255/65R 17. I should be totally ok yes?

I'm not a tire expert but . . .

The 245s are a little more than 1/2" shorter and 1/2" narrower.

I would think they'll work.

I was just looking at that one for up here in Portsmouth and it's a really well rated tire and would be an excellent choice.

I've had Michelins on two Corollas that did a combined 470,000 miles! The OEM tires and then 3 sets of 100K Michelins. It was 95% highway driving and they just lasted and lasted ...

It will work, but I'm curious why you want that tire in Florida. Most seem to choose that tire because, if I recall correctly, it is a rare all-season that is also three peak snow rated. IMHO, I'd get something else for Florida.

Will they fit? Yes.

Should you? No.

I would either keep factory tire size or go bigger. Assuming you don't care for the looks thing much I would stay with the factory tire.size and go with either the Michelin LTX M & S or the Firestone Destination LE3 as both are in a similar class of tire that you are looking at already

Agreed, the cross climate is more popular for snowy climates. There are plenty of good tires in the rain. I would find one that lets you keep your stock size. A 245 will look skinny on your Ranger and, IMO, the tread on that cross climate is weird looking.

What is the diff at 70?
You’re on to something Sid.

Smaller tires mean speedo reads higher, which means more miles recorded than you’re actually logging.

When there are 95,000 actual miles, the odo might read higher than 100,000 miles (I.e., out of extended warranty) and we all know what happens at 95k actual miles. ?

i would not want to give up the plus side of a wider tire on the street for one thats narrow but a certain tread. this is terrible misstatement and generality but in many situations more rubber on the road (width) is better. in this case it may not be enough to feel any real difference but my mind would nag me about it non stop. Michelin makes excellent tires and they are worth every cent, but maybe try another michelin tire that is the size you need. i know they make the ltx in ranger sizes and it was one of the best tires i have ever used.
