Forget about the 2.7 Ecoboost...
You cannot get a factory integrated brake controller in the new Ranger and depending on the laws in your state you will not be able to tow a 6000 pound trailer without one...most states require a brake controller if your trailer is over 1500 - 3500 pounds.

Fords stating that the Ranger can tow 7500 pounds is bs...
I’m not getting the big deal on the brake controller. You can get an aftermarket one installed or a ford accessory one installed at the dealer. The ford accessory brake controller intergrates really well next to the shifter and looks factory.

The '06 F-150 super crew is within inches of the new Ranger dimensionally, and they have quite a resemblance. The Ranger is only about 6" narrower and about 6" shorter accounting for the 6" shorter bed. The Ranger produces more HP and TQ then the standard v8, and isn't too far off from the 5.4, matches 300hp with 93 octane, but the Ranger is down about 50 lb-ft tq. Payload is similar, but f-150 is rated at 8,500 lbs towing. So essentially, in my mind, you are getting an early 2000's f-150 with marginally smaller dimensions, similar capability, and some updated tech, and these can be found with low millage for â…“ the price of the new Ranger...
Don't know what to tell ya... I've driven both and they are both very different trucks besides being decades apart in age. Must be all in your mind.

If it looks like that little volume knob in the photos that will get repeatedly hit and mis-adjusted then I'll just keep using my Prodigy P2. It's paid for so I'll just need the $20 harness to plug it in.

I can't believe the one thing that might kill my option of a new Ranger is that Ford decided not to make the crew cab w/ a 60/40 split. I use the space under the backseat and the load space all the time, and I have a baby seat in there all the time. Old truck and current explorer I would always have the seat on the 40 side and utilize the rest. Such an annoying thing to be missing that one feature

The seats don't fold down flat so it makes it much less useful to have a 60/40 split.

Something looking at the pictures of the interior that I know I'm going to miss - one touch windows. I absolutely love that feature on my Escape, I don't understand why it's not a standard thing across all Ford vehicle lines at this point, at least on the high trim series. But I wasn't going to be getting that in an Explorer or F-150 either, so oh well.

Yeah, I think the inability of the seats to fold flat is a big miss. I will deal with it - if I need storage I'll just flip the back seat up. But it would be nice to have them fold flat, and even nicer to have a 60/40 split so you could keep one seat. I'm guessing that might come at some point.

After doing WAY too much analysis on which truck I was going to buy, I realized more than ever that there is no "perfect" truck - there are compromises that must be made. You just have to decide what is most important to you. I did up a whole spreadsheet on features that I wanted and compared the Ranger and the Tacoma - even the XLT vs the Lariat. In the end, I chose the Lariat. It didn't win all the categories, but it did come out on top - for me.

I'm a data guy, a spread sheet might be useful to those that are still on the fence...:inspect:

I was trying to make it a more logical decision rather than an emotional one. In the end, I chose the Lariat, and all the numbers supported that decision. Basically the spreadsheet just had features running down the left side that were important to me, and then 3 columns for each truck and whether each satisfied the feature. Some ended up being a Tie. A point for each feature win and then I totaled up all the points for grand totals. I even did a few weighted ones - for features I felt were MORE important than others. Those were given a higher weight. It was a really interesting exercise, but I spent WAY too long on it. I kept second guessing myself....

Reading thru this thread makes me think of two quotes from Henry Ford.

1. "if I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses" and
2. "any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants, so long as it's black"

Such simpler times!

Yeah, it's like most things in life......nothing is ever perfect but (for me) this truck did not force a lot of compromises. I got the Lariat bc I wanted all the high tech stuff and the Crew Cab gives me room for backseat passengers every once in awhile (unlike my '02 Supercab Ranger).

yep, my RS has one touch for all 4 windows - I wonder if you can swap out just the switches on the driver's arm rest from a vehicle that does have it and they'd just work or if its more involved than that...

I have to believe it's more complicated than that. The doors are on the CAN network these days, and I know I've had to reprogram my up/down before, so there's some sort of module programming that takes place. Which means there's software associated with it, which means a simple plug & play (likely) wouldn't work.
