Thank you to the person who mentioned using spouse's knitting needle to hook damper loop to reinstall to post on glove box after changing cabin air filter. I fashioned a hook from a coat hanger and it worked great. Don't remember if I read it on this forum or somewhere else, but THANK YOU 100x.

And a big THANK YOU to Ford for designing such a piece of s**t. I'm not much of a car guy and I don't have a trained monkey. That's one that definitely escaped from design engineering into production. At the same time I did spouse's Corolla....easy peasy!

Ford fixed it in later years by removing it.

Hook the loop on the damper with the hook on the tip of the knitting needle. Pull it out and keep the loop straight up and down. Get the glove box part way closed. to a position where the loop will be able to reach its attachment post on the side of the glove box. You'll probably need a light. Catch the loop on the edge of the post and twist the needle enough to get the loop in place. I didn't have a knitting needle so I cut a piece of coat hanger about 1 foot long. I bent one end with a needle nose plier into a small hook and put a 90 degree bend in the middle. The 90 helps a lot as a handle when you do the twisting part....It's as if Ford deliberately designed it not to work. Good luck.

I hold the glove box door half open (right hand) to provide slack, grab the loop with my left hand, insert a fingertip into the loop then align that to the hook...

Yep, that’s the technique - no crochet hook needed.

I cannot remember how I did mine, but I was worried I would have trouble but yet, somehow, I got it right back on...weird design if you ask me.
