Like most red-blooded American men I periodically cruise Craigslist.

Found this beauty the other day. And I keep coming back to the ad to see if it's still around. It's sitting at and appears to be built by a local shop I have experience with who does good work.

'48 Chevy on S-10 frame. 4 bolt 350, 4 wheel disc's, drop leafs and spindles, PS/PB, 5spd manual.

They're asking around $20k. It would be a driver for me, just to fart around in.

If I get some earlier nights in this week and/or it's still around Friday I think I'm gonna go check it out.

Discuss please. And throw out any advice you might have when checking it out.
Thats badass!!

That one would be perfect for one of the personalized plates I'm considering.

SPOOKY- I'm sure it's taken. But my dad's '49 Ford truck was named Casper, after the friendly ghost. Spooky, the tough little ghost was Casper's cousin.

SHFTBOX

NOT ROD

The last two are self explanatory and would be perfect on that ride!

If anybody is curious about insuring g a classic your normal provider likely won't do it.

Progressive forwarded me to Haggerty and at first I was concerned I don't stock the right kind of mustard for that.

But their quote was very reasonable.

If paid annually like I do all my policies it breaks down to only $38/month for full coverage with $20k agreed upon value, no deductible, and roadside assistance.

I'm normally the type to avoid more insurance than I'm legally required. But I figured in this case it's kind of a no brainer.

Most "regular" insurers will insure for liability but typically won't do stated value policies, which is what most "classic" cars are insured with since there really is no KBB prices for stuff like this. Most insure based on what they have into them. The more you insure it for, the more it will cost you.

I have been using American Collectors Insurance for several years now for my Capri and they have a pretty good price and reputation. Might want to check them out to see what they would quote.

I kind of figured that was the case. Progressive didn't even ask if I wanted liability or full coverage before transferring me to Haggerty.

I'll check out American Collectors in the morning before I set anything up. Thanks for the tip!

I've got Hagerty and so does my dad. Never needed them fortunately but they are reasonable. They'll suggest an increase in insured price if the value increases.
Drive the heck out of it and enjoy!

I forgot to mention - one thing you'll want to make sure of with these stated value policies - all have some sort of limitation on driving - some are miles/year, some are "no daily driver", some are "shows and parades" kind of language. Make sure it fits the type of driving you intend to do with it.

Good point. When I got the quick Haggerty quote they asked this. I went with 4500 miles as that's the max for collectors tags in Colorado.

Doubt I'll roll 'em over like sid does.

That’s going to be fun riding around in it. :)
An absolute hoot. The test drive the other day, the drive home, and a quick ride for the youngest daughter were a blast!

Congratulations Doug - it‘s really cool and as long as you have that wheel chock, you won’t need to fix the parking brake cable. ?
