that seems so expensive to me
Agreed. Let's face it... folks like this stuff "just because".

What I don't understand, and perhaps somebody can enlighten me on this, is the step is nearly unusable when getting back out of the truck... it's tucked up against the truck so tight you can't even see it.

I use this 2 step stool ladder... $20 at Home Depot. Also works great for washing windows and a myriad of other tasks.

Or if $20 isn't enough, spend $38 on the 3 step model

But if I'm out and about and not at home I find the step bumper works.. or the rear tire... and I'm 58 years young.

Edge of bumper is small and done have scratched painted surface next to bumper edge. Stepping down, as you stepped up, step is deployed so you can see when you step down. Step down facing same direction you stepped up. 55, but smart and safe step keeps one healthy.

Cost?
Truck $38,000
Step $295 or so.
Step not the cost issue.

I'd like to see a video of you stepping down off the tailgate onto that tiny step, and not stepping onto the bumper, with the tailgate lanyard in the way.

I wonder if my dogs could use that step ladder, I have a pet ramp and they hate it.

I installed the Bestop step a few days ago and it is fantastic. It has made getting up on and down from the tailgate not just easy but "extremely" easy . It is very simple to push down to use it, no effort to pull myself up and very easy to get back down. No problem seeing the step from up on the tailgate. The cable, or lanyard if you will, does not get in the way at all. Once I am down the step is easy to put up to store. There is no way that it can hit the bumper when stored unless I crawl over a rock big enough to push up on it or maybe back into a snow bank and that ain't gonna happen.

It is well made and I'm very happy with it. It's convenient, and though a little pricey, it doesn't break the bank. I paid for plastic mud flaps, plastic floor mats and plastic hood protector which are not worth the money they get for them but they do the job so I don't bitch 'bout them. I want them I pay for them. Any one that doesn't want to pay just don't buy 'em but don't put people down that do.

The step is perfectly usable when getting back out of the truck. The step is not small and it is not "tucked up against the truck" when it is in use. You really need to get your facts straight.

I guess maybe it's something you have to experience?

That's why I was hoping to see a video of somebody actually using it to step down out of the vehicle. There's numerous videos showing people getting up into the truck.. just seems like it wouldn't be as easy getting down.

A question for those folks that have installed this Bestop step...

Did you wind up using any of the supplied spacers, for height?

(I haven't received mine yet, just reading the instructions, collecting tools, etc.)
I tried without the spacers and had one screw, the M6 with the allen head, that was too long to seat so I used both spacers. The step is still close enough to the bumper to be out of the way but with enough space to never have to worry about it making contact with the bumper.

Thanks for getting back to me Pvsaint.
Learning what other folks found out will help me install this critter without taking all afternoon!

Watch - ___________
I watched it yesterday... then watched it again now.

Did you watch it? He never steps out of the bed.

Kind of like a bear club climbing a pine tree... up is easy.

The thing I wanted to see is if you can see the step when you're in the bed climbing down and if it's difficult.

Pvsaint hooked me up though with a great video.....
