Many, Many crotch rockets have bit the dust on the Dragon, they have a monument to them at the Motorcycle Resort at the start of the twisties!

One year, a friend with a custom Turbo MINI drove his ride off into the lake Fontana...we found out later when photos of the submerged roof was leaked...they were ok but not so for MINI...

Retired, work is a four letter word.
We have a road here out in Prescott - Jerome (89A) which has something like 167 curves in it. There's a lot of really tight hairpin curves and you'll see many crosses where people have died on it. They sell t shirts in town that say something like "I survived 89A" with a picture of it on the front.

This is only part of it from Jerome - Prescott. There are no guardrails on the sides so it's a long way down if you mis calculate your speed.

Ah yes! Jerome, Had lunch at the 'World famous Steak Sandwich' joint, in their dreams. But the ride was awesome!

I guess you have never been on this road. This road is used for fun driving.
While that is true, the Tail is a public road maintained by tax payers. Locals rely on the road for commerce, to go to work, to seek medical care, etc. Unfortunately, there are many examples of confrontations between locals who rely on the road and those simply trying to see how fast they can get from one end to the other. The many accidents are also a significant strain on the emergency rescue services that serve the small rural communities that are required to respond to accidents on the tail. While the road is a good test for man and machine, that is NOT what it was designed for.

It is a huge tourist trap there. lol We do go up there every time we're up in Sedona which is at least once a year. We usually eat at The Haunted Hamburger and they have a nice patio where you can eat and see the views. The burgers are good but their deserts are what I really go there for. They have the best carrot cake! o_O

Damn that looks good, I love Carrot Cake, we never hit that place, I usually ride with 3 or 4 other buddies so the majority wins on where to eat, but I will be sure to try it this summer when we go back.

yeah no. clearly you dont know me either.

I'll hazard a guess your pompous better driver than you attitude gives you carte blanche ignorance to speed limits and what not?
keep it on the track, you're the problem, not me.
The Appalachian trail runs nearby from Tail of Dragon. Town of Hot Springs draws tourists also. Every day all day crotch rockets haul ass up that mtn road and countless crashes. That road is not much different than most other back roads in western NC so I don't get the hype

There is also a road from Prescott to Congress, that I have had multiple rescues/recoveries off of from motorcycles flying over the rail.

I wasn't going to reply to your first response, but people like you are a real bummer in this world. I bet you grew up in the everyone gets a trophy generation. Grow up live a little and maybe you might be able to smile once in a while instead of being a buzz kill!
I guess you must work in a banana suit, figures.

I'll give my personal story on why i do not show any respect for asshats on public roadways, regardless if they think they are awesome race drivers or not.

No, I have never rode the dragon, but i had plans to do so.

A friend from work did though.
Took his Harley and his 12 year old daughter on a road trip there and back.
they came back, the bike though was a write off.

What happened was typical.
He was riding the "fun ride" likely slightly above the speed limit, enjoying the scenery, the curves and the wind in their hair. He was no rookie. He had been riding his whole life.

Out of nowhere, an asshat on a sport bike took the inside corner, with a sweep in front of them as they exited the turn.
It startled him, even though it wasn't the only time he got passed by bikes doing similar stunts.
This one was close though, and he lifted in his turn, potentially expecting other bikes following like before, target fixated onto the ditch and in he went. it was over in the blink of an eye.
The sport bike never slowed down.
He suffered a broken arm. she broke a leg and had a massive gash on her thigh.

So, if you think I'm gonna high five an asshat for putting others in danger, you're sadly mistaken. I have zero respect or desire to even get to know you.

Doing the dragon in 15 minutes in a pickup shows a complete disregard for others, and I don't give one flying f*ck if you think you're qualified.

keep it on the track with other like minded individuals who want to risk it all.
Those having "fun" are not part of your game of death.
I agree 100%, take it to the track, see how cool you are there. Plus a Ranger on the dragon? wrong vehicle.

Sorry your friend got hurt. but I did not take any chances that I could not handle. Were you in the truck with me? NO you were not, my wife was and she said she never felt safer as with me driving and she suffers from anxiety. I NEVER crossed the yellow line nor did I ever tailgate or force anyone off the road. So please if you were not there you have no right to comment on my post. Please go pee somewhere else you are nothing to me and will not ruin my day Kiddo!

I'm actually assuming that you embellished your times at this point.
9 minutes is the record one way.

15 minutes is slow as shit.

Which is why a lifted Ranger on ATs is NOT the right vehicle for this drive.
