Have a set of Sumo's coming in, but haven't attempted to remove old bumpers yet.
Reading all old posts, I want to avoid problems removing old bumper bolt using heat. No torch available, but I do have an old charcoal coil type starter, which gets hot fast.
Wondering if I can just hold it to the top bolt threads...will it transfer enough heat to loosen the thread locker ?
It has a loop where I can just drape it over the bolt till it gets hot......
Red locker requires a temp of 250 or so to loosen, and the coil gets much hotter than that.
Opinions ????

I don't recall there being anything important in the area you need to heat, so an alternative method might work just fine. I only heated mine out of caution. I probably would have been able to get them out by rocking the bolt, but I really wasn't in the mood that day to mess with it. So at the first hint of it starting to get tight on the way out it got 10-20 seconds of propane.

As memory serves, the threads stick above the hole as well, so that gives them the opportunity to corrode slightly and then you have to pull all of that down through the threads as well. Even in GA mine had a little corrosion on them.

Also, I didn't use anything more than a standard homeowner propane torch. You might even be able to do it with a $10 Harbor Freight butane torch if you wanted. Would just take a little longer.

Start spraying break-free or something on them often until the new ones come in.
