2019 Ranger with 42,000 miles. Was driving slow to park. Truck suddenly accelerated. Stomped on brakes and stopped about a foot before hitting a post. First time it happened. I don't have a floor mat, so not a floor mat issue. Is it worth bringing to dealer now or wait to see if it happens again ?? My point is, if it is not reoccurring, the dealer may not be able to do anything.

With the vehicle off, will the gas pedal go completely to the floor and back without restriction? Try this by hand.

You know these are throttle by wire, yes? No cable to get hung up like in the olden days.

You may want to do the ABS function thru Forescan as mentioned on here to firm the brake pedal response.

Thanks for all the feed back. I'll check it out tomorrow ... it was scary. The AC was not on.

Might you have inadvertently stepped on both pedals?

Corporate drone. Dilbert's world is alive & well.
I stepped on both pedals early on in my truck ownership. First time caused a total "WTF?!" response. Second time was just "Crap. Did it again" with no drama. Haven't done it since. It does seem that stepping on both pedals is pretty easy to do in these trucks. But once you learn that fact, it's a non-issue.

Contrary to what the Warden thinks, guess I am trainable.

This happened to me early on. My guess is what happened.

Unintended acceleration is nearly Impossible with fly by wire. It’s a redundant system. Two separate voltages have to agree or the throttle will go into fault mode.

That said it is not impossible. When I was Field Technical Manager I did discover a vehicle with water in the connector at the control unit and it did accelerate on its own at slow speeds In a parking lot. Very disconcerting when you’re not expecting it. Luckily customer was very helpful at describing when it happened. I just had to find out why.

As others have said, my guess is that you accidentally pressed the gas with the brake - it isn't too hard to do - the brake pedal really should be a bit farther away, IMO.
