I’m hoping someone can give me some insight to this issue I’m having. I just did a full suspension upgrade to king 2.5 and after the truck was definitely out of alignment and to steer straight I had to put the wheel at a 45 degree angle. I got an alignment and it feels better but I’m still at 45 to go straight. Any ideas why this is happening. Thx

The shop you took it to royally screwed something up you need to take it to them and have them fix it Also I would be careful driving it cause that could be a symptom of a big problem, the likes of which prevent you from being able to steer and put you into a wall

Hi LAR,

Need to take this to a professional shop...the shop you used is clearly not professional... No reason for an off center steering wheel. Post your alignment numbers off your sheet you should have been given...Bet the aliment is for shit too....

Best,
Phil

theres an assumption a shop did the work.
or did you? " I just did a full suspension upgrade "

was it the whole 2.5 kit with UCA's?

Im wondering if this disclaimer has something to do with it

hopefully you sort it out
I'd bet it does.

There's no reason the steering wheel should be that off of center to begin with after those mods.

Sounds like the OP botched something AND the shop didn't, or wasn't able to, align the steering wheel properly.

Hey Doug,

If the CV was partially popped and not quite seating properly, do you think it would put outward force on the hub assembly and turn the wheel? Or would it just be impossible to re-attach the knuckle to the upper ball joint and tie rod if this were the case?

It's been a year or so since I had mine apart, and I'm not sure how much the CV would have to separate to do that or if it would even be possible to get it back together. I'd think the OP would hear a lot of racket if this were the case as well.

Did you do any rear suspension work or front only? It sounds like the thrust angle of rear suspension is off. Thats why all vehicles should have a proper 4 wheel alignment. If thrust angle is off, that needs corrected 1st. R20

quick update:

took it too a new shop the previous one clearly didn’t do an alignment since the new shop was able to align it. BUT! As ranger 2020 said its something to do with The rear suspension because the add a leaf if pushing the left side of the axel backwards. Which was causing the steering feel most likely. I took the truck on a trip since it was 95 percent fine did 120 miles offroad and it did great but I did hit a rock a little hard and had some other hurrahs. Which pushed the steering partly back to how it was this was to be expected because of the rear axel issue. FYI I installed all the suspension components myself with the help of friends that had done similar suspension upgrades to Tacoma’s. That being said this is where my expertise ends so i‘m going to take it to a King dealer/off-road suspension specialist who i was recommended to by friends. I‘ll keep you all posted on the truck. FYI “cough“ don‘t use tires plus “cough”

P.S.
I know there was risk and stupidity involved in using the truck in its current state especially to the extent that I did. BUT! Thats what its for and at least she’s getting good use and isn’t just a mall crawler anymore.

also thanks for everyones input I greatly appreciate it!

Well whether the issue is front or rear suspension a proper four wheel alignment would reveal the problem. I wouldn’t fool with some fancy “off-road shop“ I would find a shop with the fanciest computer laser alignment Machine you can find.

Where in Lake Tahoe do you live? We had a place in Tahoe for many decades. I still have some car nut friends who live up there who might be able to recommend a top shop for sorting what got screwed up.

The shop im planning on going to is folbeck 4WD they service my friends use them who have multiple very complicated 4WDs. I took it too a really good alignment shop thats how I figured out the axel issue and i‘m taking it back to them because they said they’d realign it for free and they did a good job the first Time.
