I work from home and my truck often sits for a few days, long enough to enter a battery saver mode. This disables remote start via the Ford App, frustrating when it’s freezing outside and I can’t warm up the truck.
Researched and settled on this.
Start-X Remote Starter Kit for... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F422Y98?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Watched a couple YT vids and installed. It goes inline behind your code reader port. Trickiest part is manipulating the tightly cramped plug from behind the reader/lower dash. You will be twisted and grunting. After a relatively simple and well explained sequence to program (hold a button, wait for a light sequence, plug in) its done. My mistake, I kept holding the button through a sequence of 3 lights, was supposed to let go when it cycles into a blue light.. thought it would stay on blue. I misread. I found a convenient spot on the metal behind the clipped/flip down plastic (to access fuse panel) to ziptie. Multiple zipties included.
On keyfob, press lock>unlock>lock. Truck remote starts in about 5 seconds. Repeat the sequence to turn off, step on brake, or apparently after 15 minutes it’ll shut down. Just like the App, it requires a key turn to drive.
Looks like its often $120, I got it for $100. Worth it! This model works on many Fords, including our 5th gen Rangers.
