If you look at the RIM you'll see why. As stated, it's not balanced and I believe it is a two-piece welded rim.

These rims were not designed for extended use or the higher speeds you would normally drive with your one-piece rim.

If you hit too many potholes or drive on rough roads (your normal daily commute :explode:) the weld could break and leave you in a bad place.

The tire and rim may be the same size as your other tires, unless you have 18 inch tires ?. The spare is a 17 inch tire and rim for all models.
hmm good point! When I take it down to look at the speed rating I’ll take a look at the construction of it. I’m not to familiar with wheels so it never crossed my mind.

I took a photo of my spare when I was trying to sell it. Zoomed way in and it is rated 112T, so it is a good tire. Wheel has to be the limiting factor.

You should also lube the lowering mechanism. And consider flipping it over so you don't have lower it every time you want to check it.

Easy fix there is buy another rim ??‍♂
Yea I was going to do that for my Tremor shortly after I brought the truck home. Mentioned the cost of the wheel to the Warden. Well, let’s just say that I decided that I didn’t need a matching wheel for the spare.

Oh yeah not a bad idea, does it have a grease zerk as I did not see one?. I thought about flipping it and remember seeing a post on here about it but was in a rush so I didn’t even look.

No grease zerk, just spray the crap out of it with some good spray lube, like chain and cable lube.

Their inventory changes frequently but you can find some good wheel here. They're priced very reasonably and tell the condition they're in.

Yea, I need to pick one up. Way too late for 5 tire rotation now. Will have to wait until the day I need new tires. But I can at least have a matching spare if/when I need it.

originally, me being me, I wanted a NEW wheel to go with my NEW truck. I know… stupid. Anyway, the new cost put me dead center of the Warden’s radar. Should have simply bought used then and I’d have been doing 5 tire rotations from day 1.

Having severe OCD I get it! I've had this link for years and should've done the same. ?‍♂ Sometimes you can find a deal on eBay too but it's time consuming because you have to always be on the lookout for one daily.

I'm lucky because Annie could care less what I spend money on. Even though we're not married (We've known each other and been together for 19 years) I always consult her with any large purchase and she does the same. I'm sure she calls me "the warden" to her friends because the Polish in me will sometimes question some of her purchases. You think car parts/mods are expensive have you seen the price of makeup!:curse::shock:

Well, hope all you guys are happy with all this spare tire talk. Yep.... that's right. Jinxed me. Had to get a tire patched yesterday. Planned on just plugging it myself. Took me FOREVER to find the nail in it. Very hidden. Extremely slow leak so soapy water was of zero help. But finally with determination, and a bit of profanity, I found the little bugger. Then, with where it was located and the amount of life left in the tires I decided against plugging it. So I ran to town and got it patched. Put my spare on the truck for the trip. All is good now.

BTW, I ran pretty much 75 MPH for the whole trip. Spare tire be danged. But then I do like to live dangerously. Once a wild child always a wild child. Just can't help it. And on top of all that I stayed up until almost 10:30 last night. I know right? I'm such an animal. :sunglasses:

Might be a dumb question , but it’s been bugging me - I took my spare tire down for the first time after 30k miles (shame on me, I know) to fill it up with air since I had the compressor out and noticed it had the 50mph max speed sticker on it. The spare is a full size tire almost exactly the same as the rest of my truck, baring the LT designation.

Main 4 - LT265/65r17 w/ aluminum
Spare 1 - 265/65r17 w/ steel

I looked online and found a few different reasons why spares may have different speed limits but most of those were due to different sizes of tires or wheels. The only thing I can think of is that the speed rating is due to the fact it isn’t balanced? I don’t recall seeing any weights but I really just flipped it to brush it off real quick as it had collected quite a bit of gravel. If it’s because it isn’t balanced, I would think I could get it balanced and treat just just like a normal tire/wheel combo. Just want to know if anyone else has any thoughts.
My 2019 Ranger XLT came with 18" tires but my spare is a 16", so I get the 50mph max designation

Right. I flipped my spare over just after a rain to get the valve down. Also noticed that less water gets trapped in the rim dish with the valve down because the other side of the tire has a deeper dish and holds more water...

Coincidentally, I got a flat last night on my way to a New Years eve dinner. Quick and easy swap for the spare. My '19 XLT 2WD came with a 16" cast spare wheel even though the other 4 are 17". I'm going to get an OEM Sport trim wheel and a matching tire for the next time.
