Few more intangibles to consider:
1. Much quieter ride. Lightning doors go “thunk” with the extra soundproofing
2. Cabin is incredibly spacious….makes any trip over 1/2 hour worth it
3. Nearly 600hp. I’ve blown away Teslas pulling away from a light. There’s just a huge fun factor having this much torque.

Curious what the additional insurance cost was. I checked back in November and it was just over 3 times the cost of my XLT Tremor Ranger insurance per year for an XLT Lightning with the extended range battery similar to what you purchased. In addition, there was going to be a surcharge added to my home owners insurance if I attached a charger to the home or stored the EV in my garage. Did you encounter any surprises on the insurance aspect? i shopped a bit with the major providers and all were within 10% of each other on premiums.

One can hope they'll change their mind, for sure.

The next hope is they do it Maverick style and let us have a lower-optioned truck with the PHEV. I don't want a Lariat, or even an XLT. I want a 2WD with cloth interior, a brake controller, and tow package. They've already made me not want a 2024 by confining the 2.7 to XLT and above, and taking away the integrated brake controller from the XL's.

They F-ed up the F150 line as well. Took all of the good towing packages away from the 2.7, which is the only engine I'm currently interested in from the bigger trucks.

I admit I am chomping at the bit to see the new Rivian R3 in person. . . That thing looks like a fun little car.

The R1T and R1S look to bubble like for me tastes.

But like @ctechbob I am looking forward to a PHEV Ranger being brought to the states. I think it will check many more boxes than some realize. . .

I like the Rivians as well but those headlights...

The R3 headlights look like Dyson air air purifiers.

Leaving on first trip towing our camper in a week....to Wilmington, N.C....350 mile run one way.
A simple 7 hour run with the Ranger...
With a Lightning....100 miles than recharge....100 miles and recharge.....100 miles and recharge...And have to search for charging stations that can take a truck/camper rig while charging. Get to campgroung...whoops...no charging EV's at campground !!! Simple 7 hour trip turns into a 2 day extravaganza !!!!
For some, for local driving around town or light duty, EV may be OK, but for serious long distance or heavy towing, not a viable truck.

That’s why we do all our camping locally…2 National Parks and a bunch of state parks all within 100 miles. No need to go farther

Good for some, but our "short" trips run 200-400 miles, and longer trips run 1000-2000 miles over a 1-3 week period.
We've been to Alaska twice in a motorhome, and hopefully one more trip in future with Ranger and trailer...could just imagine the problems with having to charge numerous times on a trip like that, and doubt you can even find charging stations in 75% of areas along the way.

I mean, they are different, but I like them better than the halogens in my truck..? I wouldn't want to have to replace any lights on the rivian - if our integrated led tails are expensive, I can't imagine a rivian cost... ? ? ?

The new R3 looks like that old vw but I imagine it will handle like a wrx on steroids....

This is exactly why an electric Pick Up is impractical.
PHEV, would work.
A car, yeah, but a truck? No if you plan on hauling or towing.

The Lightning is completely practical for me. I’m not a retired” Grumpaw”. I have young kids and play Uber driver for their activities. The bed is perfect for their dirty/wet gear. My business has frequent infrastructure stuff…construction etc. So having a truck to move/haul stuff is good. We go camping once a month. YMMV, but to say an electric pickup is impractical….no

I am of the mind that some people say "NO" what they really mean is, "no, that wouldn't work for my life style".

And that is completely fine, where the issue arises is when someone says "NO, that won't work for me so it is dumb and no one should invest money into trying to make it better."

imagine if the first automobiles had been pushed aside with such vigor because, my horse can go further without needing to stop for this pesky gas, heck, there are no petrol stations where I want to go so no one should invest in those dang noisy machines.

Nice looking truck! I had a similar thought as you. I wasn't aware the Lightning had extended-range options. It's certainly an intriguing offer with all the dealer discounts stacked with federal and state incentives. If EVs could get 400+ miles per charge, I'd be all in. For now,I am glad to still have the OG Ford Lightning in the family lol
