Not to be that guy, but ACKSHUALLY... Doesn't the Ranger already have a speed limiter? Can't find teh reference right now, but I seem to remember reading it somewhere. And it's something like 115 mph or so. I may be mistaken.

But over-the-air update? No. Not for this vehicle. Gotta plug in the programmer to change something like that. Reflashing the ECM would be the only way to change the limiter setting (unless it's buried somewhere in the NVM settings that Forscan can change).
Yes it is in the module but nothing Forscan can’t fix. Well for now anyways. Pretty soon the factory will passcode our rides so we can manipulate anymore. Brings back memories of the first time I jailbreaked my iPhone.

Hah! Megasquirt will fix even that. Not sure if it can handle the cam controls, tho...

They'll figure out which radio station is your favorite then charge you to access it....and sense you squirming in your seat and then provide you (at a price) directions to the nearest rest area...
Funny story. One of my kids started playing rap while in his room. I know he was doing it just to piss me off as I had made mention before how much I hated it. So… Got the hood stereo blasting at 1300 watts so the windows rattled and was head bobbin. He comes out of his room with this face of shock! Wait a sec dad, you like this? Yup dog we doing this righteous.

He never played it again, neither did I for that matter! ?

Not discussing the top end limiter but the speed limit of the vehicle will be set according to the road you are currently on .

if this was really about safety or saving lives the items being addressed should be things like the rolling movie theater "infotainment" systems in cars that let folks do every damn thing except drive the car and pay attention to the road and traffic. or even the systems that take more of the responsibility away from the people in the driver seat like automatic parking, braking, lane keeping and many others. distracted driving and driving under the influence of drugs / alcohol are much more directly to blame for deaths than speeding. If speed was the real threat every race track on race day would be a slaughter. sure accidents at higher speed are worse and yet the tracks are not a constant blood bath. If they want to stop folks from speeding and driving dangerously then make the penalty stiff and enforce it. Instead its a slap on the wallet and if you really "hump the duck" a slap on wrist and you call a lawyer. I say up the fines so high people cant afford to drive like ass holes, up the punishment. Those at fault of accidents due to speeding drinking and driving etc. should automatically never have a DL again in any state. They should also have mandatory base jail time while waiting for a trail. We know the real problems. we ignore those and blame other things while handing over freedom. we have parking lots made just for bars and breweries and constant push to make more drugs legal. we keep adding more things to cars that should not be in the view of or even near the driver. We keep trying to legislate society into good people. No amount of restrictions, laws or tyrannical control will ever make people good people. Plenty of things are already illegal and bad stuff still happens lol. This being about safety is just a cute cover story for the folks absorbing the narrative. This is about control and the slow but sure handing over of individual freedoms.

I just realized that tinfoil hats might actually sell better than dampers on here! I've applied for a sponsorship of the forum and I'm spinning up a website now! Bet I could color match them to Ford colors too...

Removing (or changing) the governor is an easy task. But! Before you do, remember the reason it is there in the first place, is the tire speed rating. This is especially true of "knobby" tires which seem to be all of the rage these days.

Brakes are another issue too. Large, over-sized tires, increase the stopping distance rather drastically. You see lots of over-sized tires on Rangers hereabouts, but I've yet to see anyone here talk about upgraded brakes!

Wow. Didn't realize that was what was being proposed. Who needs this crap?

A change to that would be a major revision to the ECU software. Dynamic speed limiter. Wonder where they would propose to get the speed limit signals from? Machine vision Cameras reading actual road signs?

This ultra-hyper focus on safety trend is getting ridiculous. Seat belts, OK. They only add a few bucks, and not too much complication (once the automatic self-buckling belt systems went the way of the dinosaur). Air bags, pushing the limits of way too much complication and expense for the limited benefit. If they were optional, how much would the system cost? How much additional risk is there vs just belts / harness? Self-driving technology is ok, but who benefits? Uber / Lyft, and taxis? Rich people who want / need a chauffeur? This technology is expensive. If it was optional, who would buy it?

Of course, this would be academic if the self-driving software becomes mandatory. Maybe this is the end-game. No drivers, no problem.

People don't seem to understand that Freedom is only available to the SELF-GOVERNING person.

They get the speed limits thru GPS location. Waze and Google Maps already show the posted speed limit on the map. It goes red if you exceed the limit.
