why bother with the call. the system knows your vin and all the other data already. upload the info to the net for fuzz and they could just email the citations.
I read an article before I retired that a police department in Texas was testing a program emailing citations.

Our Explorer already does this with "intelligent cruise control" - it actually reads the speed limit signs and adjusts your cruise control to your chosen speed limit offset.
Our Rangers can read speed signs and display it on the dash. It will even flash it at you if you go over your preset offset. It just doesn't tie into the CC.

Nah. That's not convenient enough. They'll put an NFC chip on the dash, and you'll just tap your credit card to pay the fine brfoere your vehicle will start.

sadly that is pretty likely. thats basically what they did with the dwi / dui scum bags that had a good lawyer. they put the blow test thing in the car before it would start.

Ha ha ha! Nope. My wife drives it most of the time and she keeps the offset at +5 MPH. So she's not going to get any tickets going 70 in a 65 - which is pretty much her whole path to work.
Yah. Down here in the big city, it's a terrifying mix of Ricer boiz at +25 and their cousins in a 1980s POS at -15, and normal people just trying to survive.

Because, just like 'sensible' gun control, it's easier to pass a new law than enforce those already on the books.
I'm a habitual speeder and my guns have nothing to do with it.....

Or they will mandate that your VIN is linked to a credit card or bank account before you can drive, with auto-pay for fines.

Yes but we are missing the Yin to this Yang.
There is no pancake so flat that it only has one side.

What about the lives that are saved due to speeding? Sounds odd to even mutter off my lips but I can't even count the number of times I've sped up and passed a driver that was losing a tire, losing a load, driving drunk, driving angry, having some sort of car malfunction, or driving BELOW posted speeds n the left lane causing a back up. How many times has speed saved me from being boxed in by 18 wheelers?

Not talking about habitual speeding, just an intermittent burst to get around and clear an obstacle. Will the government be paying for damages to vehicles struck by tire debris now? What if I jack on my brakes (my only choice now) to avoid that tire being slung off a truck? What about the 5 car pile up that happens behind me?

Explain to me how Germany operates an Autobahn with incredibly high speeds and afar less number of accidents than we see else where?

What about speed limits? We established current speed limits based on vehicle and tire technology in the 1970's. If you are going to limit us to the posted limit, how about revisiting the posted limits. Cars stop and swerve faster and maintain control much better than the 1974 Crown Victoria Test Vehicles they used.

How about we start enforcing some of the laws that already exist to keep us safe? I still see people talking on their cell while driving. I still see people driving in the let lane (left lane camping). I still see people tailgating. How many times have you seen people make a right turn but go all the way over into the left lane when they do it?

Point is, we should never remove free will unless it is a last resort. There are plenty of other areas to make improvements in safety than auto reducing speed and removing options from drivers - options that save lives too.
Like you, I have had experience using speed to protect lives. To go even further, postulate someone chasing you intent on doing harm. They have a car without limits and yours is limited. How are you going to get away? Not a chance in hell. If you don't have the means or wherewithal to utilize a deadly weapon of your own, getting away is your only option. How will you do this if you're not allowed to drive as fast as possible?

An old homeless guy, as we watched a car speed by, said, “we make it too easy on them with padded dashes and seatbelts. Put a 10” spike on the steering wheel. That would slow them down.”
Got to admit…he ain't wrong.

I wouldn't characterize it as a government power grab.
The deaths are enough of a statistic to prove that its warranted.
As much as I don't like it , and many others who feel it tramples your rights, the vast amount of proof shows that lives matter more. Its inevitable that it will come, and so will many offshoots from that.
Whoa... communism alert.

No. Sorry. The lives are NEVER more important than the freedom. George, Thomas, and John would agree with me so much that they actually wrote it into a big document.

I will ask it even though I know it will enrage many, when does the document become outdated and irrelevant?
