I could be wrong, but I don't think they can push an ECM update over the air, but they may secretly update it when you go in for service.
Some cars like Teslas get updates over air. This is creepy though. Maybe it would be a module like in Forscan, in which case we could disable it. The smart software guys and hackers would be all over this I bet.

Some automakers, have started to remove features from vehicles via update. Look on youtube, or google search for Porsche or Tesla.
Sync when it updated added a "safety break" which stops me from scrolling my songs while driving for like 5 seconds at a time. Somehow I got rid of it on the next update and I have not and will not update ever again!!! Same with Fordpass.

Remember when Tesla lifted the range cap during the hurricane so people can escape? My DJI drone can be geo fenced...so can electric cars... In certain areas during heat wave, people with smart meters had their AC raised remotely and couldn't be over ridden...brave new world...

Yeah I know what they are doing. But what I don't really know is what the underground response will be to undo it. Right now it's still easy enough to not buy into smart devices or unplug the modem in the Ranger. But that won't stay that way for long. And old vehicles won't be an option if the enthanol keeps getting upped. Not to mention states like CA that might not even have gas stations one day.

Similar to gun debate...the authorities expect criminals to obey laws but only the lawful do...again, it's another mass control cloaked as public safety...
Exactly. And the remnant of the law-abiding mass that refuses to be controlled then become criminals and are on the wrong side of the law, and usually with worse penalty than those who have broken laws that have negatively impacted other citizens.

I am hoping that none of our elected officials are so foolish to believe criminals will all of a sudden obey whatever law is enacted. But I am also extremely concerned with the continued efforts we have and will experience to control the masses. But maybe even the most concerning is the naivity of the general public to follow along like sheep without thinking about the personal impact - meaning risk and exposure and future.

Love him, or hate him, Nietzsche was right, most are sheep, waiting for the Übermensch.

Not to be that guy, but ACKSHUALLY... Doesn't the Ranger already have a speed limiter? Can't find teh reference right now, but I seem to remember reading it somewhere. And it's something like 115 mph or so. I may be mistaken.

But over-the-air update? No. Not for this vehicle. Gotta plug in the programmer to change something like that. Reflashing the ECM would be the only way to change the limiter setting (unless it's buried somewhere in the NVM settings that Forscan can change).

The thing is, I know very few trustworthy shepherds. But there are some out there. They just need to stand up and be shepherds. :muscle:
