So I guess I misspoke about being away for days. :)

I am home, resting fairly comfortably, able to get around a little with the walker, have the 8 different prescriptions programmed in the reminders of my phone, etc.

I can’t express how much I appreciate all the support and all the great jokes, laughing really lifts my spirits.

The experience was awesome. The hospital and staff were a perfect 10.

I think it is variable based on individual circumstances, but for me, it was almost an outpatient kind of experience. In at 9 and out by 5:15pm. They had me up and walking about an hour after coming to and practicing steps by 3pm.

I have started the post op exercise routine (slowly ;)).

I plan to go through and answer all the questions posted in my absence.

Thanks again for all the support, what a great group of friends.

glad you are doing well. A good attitude and outlook goes a long way. Any mods planned for the walker?

I had to laugh this morning when they were prepping me. I had your post in mind about the procedurE. I guess the doc was pulling my leg when he quipped that with the spinal block. If I wanted to stay awake it would be OK. I asked the anesthesiologist if she thought skipping the general made sense? She looked at me kind of in shock and said, “some procedures you can stay awake, this isn’t one of them.” I like a doc with a good sense of humor. ;)
Imagine what he's doing with your body parts while you're asleep... ? o_O

Definitely, the anesthesiologist clearly was letting me know I didn’t want to see. She said there was no chance of me feeling a thing due to the spinal block. I believe her as my lower body was totally numb for at least 30 mins after the silly time was over for the general. I am thinking a $25K Sawzall…. ;)

May Peace always be with you.

I admire your optimism and hope you can maintain it indefinitely. My road to early medical retirement began with an ER visit to the hospital in Mountain Home, ID back in 2015.

The first orthopedic surgeon (here at home) practically threw me out of his office, clearly disturbed by my failure to adhere to 'politically correct dogma'. My next visit with an orthopedic clinic was quite the opposite - extremely positive. They performed emergency surgery on my right arm, did a complete physical workup on my orthopedic issues, turning everything over to my attorney.

Was told I could receive the recommended surgery under Medicare after a grace period - medical provider said NO. I never sought another opinion outside of my medical plan as an ongoing major family crisis came to be during this period.

I'm at the point reached in The Beatles 1970 hit 'Let It Be'.

Were you working at the base in Mountain Home when your ER visit cropped up?

I had a little struggle with my Medicare Supplement insurance on my preferred PT provider. They approved the surgery, but wouldn’t pay for the PT gal I want to use for this rehab. I decided to pay for her out of pocket as she saved me a surgery for a torn rotator cuff I got during our Snowmeggdon winter we had a number of years ago.

The private hospitals here were so backed up due to Covid, I considered going to the VA here, which gets good reviews, but the lead times we’re going to end up being just as long, so I just sucked it up and waited.

My father-in-law, who is 93, always says, getting old isn’t for sissy’s. ;)

Bill, glad to hear you did well with surgery! Healing prayers headed your way!
Thanks a lot Brian, I really appreciate it. One of the senior RN’s that was prepping me said I might have some doubts about the wisdom of my choice during the first few days after the procedure, she said that feeling would pass quickly.

I am still really glad I did it, although this first night has been a little rugged. ;)

How long do they expect them to last before you would need a revision?
Lets just hope there is no furel in the oil
I had ordered them from Real Trucks as they had quoted a lead time that would allow me to get them installed before the surgery. Unfortunately, they kept updating the delivery date and when it got to past my surgery date, I cancelled the order. I will reorder them after I am well enough to be crawling around the garage floor to get them installed, I just didn’t want them laying around for a month or so. I could have really used them in the interim, but like everything else, supply chain woes strike again. ;)
Well that sux. If you were in NC I'd offer to install for you.
The crawling around on the floor isn't too bad, it's the getting up and down 100 times that's painful!
Glad your home and on the road to recovery.

Definitely no fuel in the oil, BUT, had my first snafu on a missed med front as a reminder didn’t fire as my phone was in do not disturb mode, Spent 30 minutes on Google trying to figure out if I needed to take it 3 hours late, or skip it. Dope. :(

I agree on the AMP step install, I did them on my previous GM truck (which I really needed as it was lifted and big tires, etc). My YouTube research on the Ranger install seems to indicate a little easier install, but definitely too much for a month or so.

And I was coming here this morning to ask where Bill is and what's taking so long, lol.

Congrats, and hope your recovery goes as well as the surgery!

Did they do this as outpatient?

I think Bill was supposed to stay overnight but he was worried about the party we were throwing at his house. IDK why because his wife Mary was having a great time along with us all? ?

Officially Tracy I was inpatient at the hospital as they tell you might have to stay if you aren’t meeting their criteria for discharge, but from an experience standpoint it felt more like outpatient. I have never had a doctor hospital experience as good as this one. They really are dialed every step of the way (no pun intended ;)).
