Hi all,

Recently (about a month ago) I took my truck to the dealership to have the oil changed, and I noticed (today) that I don't have a skid plate underneath my truck. I don't remember if I had one when I bought it, but I think I might have. I remember watching oil change videos for the Rangers, and saying that you needed to remove the skid plate so the oil didn't drip on it when changing the filter. My truck is the XL (I think) variant, with the STX appearance package - Has the sticker and plastic badge with STX on it and equipment group 101A (that I know for sure).

I could swear that it had some kind of skid plate under the oil filter before, does anyone else have a similarly equipped truck that can confirm that there is or is not a skid plate of some kind there?

The skid plate only comes standard with the Fx4 package. Unless you added it after your purchase chances are it was never there.
Thanks! Yeah, then I think it may have never been there. I am certain I didn't buy that package.

Easiest way to tell is if yours has the Fx4 on the back of the rear quarter panels.

Thank you! Yep, I do not have that package, definitely not. I basically just wanted a base truck with nicer looking wheels/rims. :)

If your truck is a 4x4 then yes there should be a skid plate. If it is a 4x2 then no it does not have a skid plate.

The FX4 has the 5D032B, it's painted an aluminum color, the std 4x4 (non FX4) has the 5D032A skid plate, it's smaller and just not as snazzy looking.

Wait, I thought 5D032A was just some sort of liner for 5D032B. Did you mean all the other trucks have 5C076?

Yup, thanks. I thought I remember reading something around here for the FX4 skid plate upgrade that some people do, it has a liner for noise control and I thought that was it in the picture above.

Noise control.... on a skid plate? Seems weird to me.

I can confirm that I have 5D032A on mine. You either have 5D032A, 5D032B, or none.

If you have an STX 4x4 you originally had a skid plate. If you only had the 4x2 (aka 2 wheel drive) you wouldn't have a skid plate.

Since you said you have the STX, the way to check if you have 4x4 is to see if you have a circle knob next to your shifter that cycles through 2H, 2H, and 2L.

If you have the 4x4 STX and you don't have the skid plate now, your dealer left it off after the oil change.

No Engine or Trans skid plates on ANY 2wd model, not even the FX2 (ask me how i know, oh, i have a FX2- but you do get a piece of silver plastic that looks like 1/2 a skid plate on the FX2! -yes, really.) No worries though, super easy to add them both. Trick is, you need to buy 4x4 Tow hooks, as these have the welded on brackets that the front plate bolts to, 2wd ranger hooks don't have the brackets welded to them. the trans plate will bolt right up to any Ranger, no parts required. just added mine tonight! Don't forget the 6 bolts you'll need. Trans and Engine share 2.
Oh, and it's the Trans plate that need removal on an oil change, not the engine one!
