Skid plate

I was watching a video on changing the oil on my 2019 Ranger. It showed removing a skid plate to help keep things from getting messy when draining the oil. My truck, 2WD does not have the skid plate. Is the skid plate only for 4WD or off road applications?

Yes the skid plate is only on 4wd. Some folks have put them on their 2wd, but factory only 4wd.

Only 4WD with the FX4 pkg. have skid plates. You can have 4WD with no skid plates.

Can you get a picture? Per specs, the only NA Rangers that have skid plates are FX4 models.

Here ya go. I believe the op is refering to the plate in the first photo. Its held on with 4 bolts. Only the back 2 have to be completely removed for an oil change. (Losen up the front 2 and slide the plate backwards) The xl 4x4s have plates. They just aren't as sexy as the fx4 stuff.

Yep, see that! Maybe 2WD’s don’t have the skids, as I see on some online instructions for oil change says to “remove skid plate if present”.

Yes 4x4 didn’t mean to left turn your thread. I don’t think the 2wd models come with the plate most oil change videos show. Maybe that’s a good thing? Less work come oil change time.

Yea that’s fine. The XL doesn’t have the sexy stuff. But steel panels on the underside are what they are.
