Anytime I'm going offroad traction control off, then advance trac off. I'm normally in sport mode with me shifting the gears in manual mode. I don't usual mess with the terrain managment because the all want to be in 4wd. I stay in 2wd until I actual need 4wd. I slide and drift corners very easily and sometimes the roll stability will kick in which makes me mad! Normally it only kicks in if I'm really hammering down running like 50+mph and taking turns and sliding alot. But with "normal" trails/dirt roads I can slide and drift the turns without it kicking in.
Interesting, this is how I run my truck, but my roll stability kicks in all the time, I can't get it to slide even at 10mph. Trying to take corners at 40+mph and the truck feels extremely unstable and twitchy. I cannot get my truck to slide or drift at all. Even in sand mode, the roll stability will kick in if I try to do a donut.

I don't think its a problem with my driving either as I've done 1600+ miles of offroading in Baja in a F150 Raptor with similar settings and had no problems. I just cant figure out the rear end in this truck.

folks may make fun of me but i carry 3 spares sometimes. but 99% of the time im alone. and dont have any friends or relatives in my area any more or the places i go off road. its common for me to have the cell phone not get signal as well. so if i know im going to the some place sketchy i bring a lot of stuff along. some tools, extra food water and clothes etc.
It's better to be overprepared than under. No one laughs at the guy fixing their problem when they are caught unprepared.

That is weird man. Hope you can figure it out.

I do not recommend following @20XLRangerFraptor advice on when to turn on 4WD. If you are on the trail and that trail is not pavement then you should be in 4WD. Not doing so because you feel you don't need to be can and will get you kicked out of group runs simply because you are most likely to tear up a trail. The more torn up a trail gets the higher the chance it gets closed down. Keep it in mind

Tell me what airing down does for improving punctures?
Having lower air pressure while OffRoad makes the tire a bit more flexible and harder to puncture. It's that simple. That said it isn't impossible to get a puncture as there can be many different things that could cause said puncture

Being in 4wd just because you are off pavement can snap axles and damage diffs/transfer case/transmission. Being in 4wd is dependent on available traction, not simply being off a paved surface. You can easily damage a trail while being in 4wd, just like you can not damage a trail while being in 2wd.

If you are being irresponsible then yes you can break different parts of the drive line in 4WD regardless of you are OffRoad or not. If being smart you will find you not tearing up a trail in 4WD vs being in 2WD. It is there for a reason and should be used. Many 4WD groups will kick you out if you brag about being in 2WD instead of 4WD simply because you are.more likely to be irresponsible and tear up the trail.

It never has been, nobody has come close to answering my original question
so i simply have my tires ratchet strapped together one on top of other laying flat in the bed and then another strap going across the bed to the middle bed tie downs. so they are not going any place. My fuel can is strapped to the front tie downs flat up against the bed wall near the cab. I have beat on the truck for 39k miles this way, off road, on road, in rivers, up mountains, sand dunes etc with no problems. just check straps before every adventure.

There’s a few options on mounting fuel, water, propane, fire extinguisher. Definitely added weight with panels and everything attached.

For extra spare I’m looking at RiG’d ultra swing

Also you could add tailgate table think I purchased this at Mountian Hatch

I'll try to answer the original question. I pondered fuel and water storage long and hard, arriving at a setup that I've used for a couple weeks worth of camping already. 'Super Crate' oversized milk crate - google that and you'll find what I'm talking about. Interior dimensions must be 13.75" x 13.75." This fits a Wavian steel 5 gall jerry can and a Sceptre 5 gallon military water can side by side. I actually line up 3 of these Super Crates along the back bulkhead of the truckbed in my truck canopy. They just fit, and fit snug to one another. In one is fuel/water. In another, a flat of La Croix soda and beers. In the third is my recovery/tire repair/air up and tools. Love those oversized milk crates. Regular size you buy at Home Depot will not work, those are 13" or smaller in depth/width.

Re: 2nd spare tire, in my opinion totally unnecessary in North America. My first tire repair was in my Subaru Outback, way out in the Oregon desert. Luckily, nail through the middle of the tread. With a simple plug kit, I was back in action. I only had a donut spare, so I really hoped the repair worked, and it did.

I have C load tires all around now, including matching spare. If I get a puncture that's repairable, I'll plug it. If its a sidewall puncture, I'll repair with a sidewall kit but rotate that tire to the spare position, use the spare to drive on. At this point, I'm reconsidering my plans though my adventure isn't over, I'm just not going down gnarly volcanic rock anymore.

I've also watched a million YouTube videos on the subject, long time experts like Andrew St Pierre White, who's travelled Africa and Australia for decades, admits near zero need for a 2nd spare though he has kitted out a vehicle or two with one.

I just think the odds are infinitesimally small you'll get a puncture that's irreparable, then destroy your spare and need yet another spare. Do you pack a spare radiator? That's what went out on me, stranding me in the boonies the one time I was seriously in a pickle.

This sounds exactly like what I have been doing and it works good. I would like to build something that looks better and is easier to install/remove the tire and fuel can
