Went out on a dirt run in the high desert for some offroading, testing out the original suspension height before I added the 3" level spacer. I do find it pretty bouncy. Finally get what everyone is talking about. Hope to save up for some performance suspension down the road. But having said that, I had fun out there in stock suspension. Definitely works well. Tried 4 high and 4 low. Works great.

It did great. Definitely need a better grab on the tires. There where a few areas where as I was crawling up hill it would slip here and there. I also tried the trail control and its awesome. A lot smoother than the Tacomas. Power wise, the 10 speed transmission does a great job with torque. I wasn't in a very aggressive terrain but there where few large bumps and clearance was not an issue.

I agree! I took mine out last weekend to Hungry Valley OHV for the first time and played a little and I was more than impressed with the trucks capability off road.

Is this near hwy 138? looks familiar... punch bowl?

It's near. Its pretty much my backyard in Palmdale ca. I'm installing my lift tonight and tomorrow I'll be taking a night run trail with some other trucks in Palmdale.
Heres a screen shot of the map area where I was

I did a similar run at the sand dunes in CO while still stock. I had a similar experience as well. There is one really soft deep point that XJs, rubicons, FJs, and tacomas were having issues while I cruised through with no issues in sand mode (stock tires without lowering pressure) with the rear locked out.

The OEM tires are strictly highway tires, making it hard to really judge Ranger off-road capability. They are fine highway tires, but they will embarrass you the minute you step off the pavement. I bought some "take off" Lariat wheels (cheap!) and mounted a set of serious tires that I can mount/dismount in 20 minutes.

I get what you're saying, and I will he upgrading wheels and tires , but in no way had my oem tires embarrassed me. I've been on 2 offroad trips Nd has been pretty good.

That sure looks like fun, throwing all those "roostertails" in that beautiful desert flatpan, but my frame of reference is a little different regarding these tires - especially when our local mountain terrain is pictured with a foot of snow.
