I only considered a Tacoma mainly because I've always driven manuals. However, a Tacoma with a manual has to be a TRD model with lots of things I don't need (minority here but 4 wheel drive) and the average economy was like 17. I looked at a few used manual Colorados, but they would have been less powerful and gotten worse mileage than the Ranger for basically the same money as I spent on my new Ranger. I'd prefer a manual transmission (I think I'd get better mileage than the auto, which while better than most automatics is sometimes in the wrong gear), but the other benefits of the Ranger outweighed having 3 pedals.

A new F150 Raptor but couldn’t get my head around a V6… but being in my twilight years as reminded to me by my wife I chose the Ranger as it checked more boxes for both of us… but still it was an exciting but fleeting thought.. kind of a letdown but no regrets I’m happy nonetheless!!!

Curious as to what others considered as their second choice behind the Ranger. Mine was a newer F-150 . I put over 300k miles on a Taco before I bought the F-150 new and it was a good truck. The full size was good too but I wanted a midsize truck again and the power on the Taco’s was lacking. I’m really happy with my Ranger.

At the time, summer of 2019, the Ranger was the only game in town for us. When it is at least five years old, is paid for, and passes 100,000 miles, it will be a lot tougher decision, as Ford has and will have many more tempting options: Ranger Tremor, Ranger Raptor, Bronco, Everest, F-150 Tremor, F-150 Raptor, F-150 Lightning?

I had always driven an F-150's. All good trucks, and my last was a '13. The F-150's had grown in size and my little town was getting cramped from so many transplants. With that parking lots, etc. had shrunk to accomodate them. I bought a little '92 Toyota pick-up as a project, and it was quite fun. But, along came a young man with more dollars than he had sense. Bye-bye Toyota. I knew I wanted a Ranger, but flirted with the GM twins. It was the Ranger hands down.

Drove them all... Still came back to a Ford Truck.. This is my first Ranger coming from 2 previous F150's... Drove every model of truck out there.. Toyota, Dodge, Nissan etc.. etc.. Wanted another F150 but didn't want the price tag with it and an A Plan guy here.. Didn't think I would like the Ranger but After driving the Lariat, FX4 etc.. I purchased a Tremor... It rode the best to me out of the models and felt more like a true truck. Very happy with it's performance and it's hauling for a 4 Banger... Wish ford would have upped the motor in the Tremor but whatever....

I ordered a fully loaded Maverick Lariat in October but came to realize I was probably not going to get it this year. I had went back and forth between the Maverick and the Ranger when I ordered so I started searching for a Ranger. Found a Tremor on a dealer lot for slightly under MSRP so grabbed it. It's only been a week but loving it so far!

Hopefully this isn't blasphemy:

I wanted another F150. In the spring of 2020, I found a new raptor mid package for 54k near me. I couldn't pull the trigger because I was sentimental on the truck I owned (2012 f150 fx4 loaded with 150k) at the time because I keep my trucks. May be dumb now. Fast forward to 2021, transmission, cam phasers/timing chain, and starter finally wear out (just shy of 220k). I needed a truck but I wasn't willing to pay over sticker or 60k for a xlt f150. I test drove all the mid-sized trucks because they were all priced under 45k. I hated everything but the ranger. I also felt like the tacoma was a death trap with its engine, Transmission, and brakes for a little shade. I was settled on a used 2020 for 42k, but I found my 2021 xlt tremor brand new on a lot under 40k OTD. I've been happy ever since. I may get another f150 and give this truck to my kids if they're lucky .

When I was shopping for my Ranger, I was also cross shopping three totally different vehicles in the same price range that would fulfill most of the same missions.

-Lexus 460/470
-Ford F250/350
-Hummer (mil. spec.)

I wanted something in 4-wheel drive that would handle the boat ramp and towing chores without issues. An added bonus was for the vehicle to be trail ready/capable. I have no "regerts". ?

I was test driving a handful of F150 Raptors. Unfortunately, where I am located there is just a huge shortage of new cars completely… (even as of last weekend. Was going around and taking the girl out to look for her a new car, Toyota had 3 NEW cars, everything else was used… KIA, mostly all electric.. FORD, had a few but nothing exciting, and LandRover had 4 new RangeRovers and 2 LandRover Discoveries.) It’s sad.

Back to about 2 months of test driving the Raptors, all I could find was newer models with extremely high mileage (2019+ w/ 50,000+) or mostly the older models that didn’t have what I wanted (moon roof, cooled and heated seats).

For what they wanted on these amazing trucks, I was able to easily get true brand new from dealer ROUSH Ranger … with mostly what I wanted and a full warranty, and MUCH better financing terms.

I was in the market for a 4runner when I found my truck on a dealer site with no markup. Called them and purchased that day after calling 20+ Toyota dealerships in 5+ states. Lowest markup I found on a 2021 4runner (SR5, or TRD off-road) was $15,000. Purchased the Ranger for $500 less than sticker. I would of also considered, and probably been happy with, a new Frontier.

I bought my ranger to replace my F350 long Bed Dually. I was tired of struggling to find parking for the behemoth and paying absurd amounts of money for diesel. Once the trailer went so did the truck. I briefly considered getting the Jeep Gladiator but didn't want to pay what they were asking and I wanted to get the bronco but would probably still be waiting so went with my ranger.

Maverick. But just didn’t want to wait a year. Glad I didn’t. I would have given up a lot of capabilities with 4wd vs AWD.

Full size is just too big, so I looked at a Ridgeline, but no thanks. It is a very nice car, but I was shopping for a truck.

No way in hell could I look at a Toyota, ever, that would just be sacrilegious.

The GM twins were a possibility due to employee discounts, but the fact that GM had recently destroyed my city by closing our plant and throwing myself and several thousand other people out of work negated that option.

I am very happy with Ferd the Ford. It does everything I ask of it, gets decent fuel mileage, is comfy and fun to drive, and I like the look of it as long as I am not looking straight at it from the front because it is a tad too narrow IMO.

I had a Ram 1500 that wouldn't fit in the garage of the new house I bought in 2019. At the time, the Chevy Colorado was a distant second to the 2019 Ranger I bought (Tacoma too expensive, Nissan too old). If the hybrid Maverick had been an option then, I would have looked pretty long and hard at it. Might be on a Maverick forum now instead.

Today ($5 gas), if I were to choose between the Ranger (2 years with the Ranger) and Maverick, I'd probably get a Maverick. In 2019, coming off a full size and concerned about losing towing and hauling ability, I probably would have nixed the Maverick.
