F150 was also considered. The Ranger was the right size for me.

Ranger was my 3rd choice!

First was the f150
Second dodge ram
Then the wife said
"Why dint you look at the ranger"
I was like ranger pfft. Please
So i humored her. Then said

It has a pay load of how much!?!
Can tow how much!?!
All the bells and whistles i want!?!
Not a watered down f150!
10 grand less!!
Took a closer look, and a very happy tower and camper.

I ruled out the dodge real fast after looking at it.
I did see chevy. As i drove by the dealership.

Colorado. I wanted to have a crew cab/6 ft bed combination. The Colorado was a solid truck, but in the end, the Ranger edged it out in every category except the length of the bed, so a compromise was made.

When I started to consider buying a new Ford truck, several things (pricing primarily) jumped off the page, but more on that in a minute.

In order to get a 3.5 Ecoboost in an F150, you have to choose an XLT, and pay extra to get it. Although the on-line information would indicate you can get an XLT two door with a short bed, Ford won't build you one, unless you're a fleet buyer! A four door model, won't fit into the average garage, with the door closed.

And, by the time you add in the $10Gs difference between the Ranger XLT and the F150 XLT without the Ecoboost option, you're starting to get into really big money.

Then you have to consider a few tuning modes. My ranger cost about $35,000. I put another $5,000 under the hood, and still saved $5,000 plus the extra F150 tariff for the Ecoboost V6. What I ended up with, can easily run away from a stock F150, no matter which ICE is under the hood. As bonus, it goes into my garage, with the door closed, with the workbench in front to it, still usable!

Case closed.

Curious as to what others considered as their second choice behind the Ranger. Mine was a newer F-150 . I put over 300k miles on a Taco before I bought the F-150 new and it was a good truck. The full size was good too but I wanted a midsize truck again and the power on the Taco’s was lacking. I’m really happy with my Ranger.
At first I was planning on a '21 Bronco 2 door with the Sasquatch package, but decided waiting in line for 2+ years wasn't worth it and with all the problems they're having, I'm glad I changed my mind...

I was planning on sticking with Ford this whole time and thought about a '21 F-150 regular cab, short bed, 5.0, 2wd and make it into a street truck! But the wife thought a regular cab might be tight with us and the dog in it...

So, I test drove a '20 Ranger STX Crew Cab 4x4 first and really liked it, but decided a 4x4 wasn't needed and I wanted a few more creature comforts and I wanted to clone the SCT SEMA truck and what I ordered was needed to do that :)

The only other 2 non-Ford vehicles we thought about were a new Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4 and 4-Runner TRD Sport 4x4. 4-Runner was way to big and felt like a small yacht, when we test drove it... I couldn't even fit in the Tacoma, seat all the way back, head was touching the headliner and knees were in the dash... I'm 6'5" and 255lbs!

Maverick was on order but constant delays + an XLT Ranger 2wd showing up at the dealer instead of 4x4 lariats (got my ranger for the same price as the Mav that I never got a VIN for...)

Ranger was my 2nd choice, and I am looking at the 6g!

And I really like my '21 F-150 Lariat!

It was the Ranger or a Canyon.
I looked at late model and new Canyons/Colorados first, knew I didn't want a Nissan or Toyota. Something about the ergonomics felt different to me in the Canyon & Colorados since all I ever owned were Fords and Mercurys. And they just felt too confining to me when I sat behind the wheel (and I'm pretty small).
Then my brother mentioned that we've had some Rangers in for cap installations and they looked pretty nice and I should go look at them. I had forgotten about the new Rangers! A Ford dealer 30 minutes away had just ordered a cap from us that he had built into the deal for a customer, so i called him and he brought a 2019 Ranger down for me at work to test drive. It didn't have power seats, so that was a no go. Next day I saw on their website they had the Cactus Green 2021 XLT with the 302A package, so I went up to see it and ended up buying it.

May have been my second choice but it turns out to be the best and current choice (so far).
I had a TJ Rubicon back in 2014, it was mostly all stock when I bought it, then I got insane with the mods, 5.5" long arm life, 35's MT's, etc. It probably got 7 mpg after everything I did... I could drive it 4 days and it would need refilling... It was about 160 miles... We thought about a Gladiator, but they're 10" longer than my CC Ranger...

Maybe, LOL! It was definitely fun off-roading and it was the older straight 6 4.0 I hated driving it to work and back though, since I definitely built it for off-roading!
