Curious as to what others considered as their second choice behind the Ranger. Mine was a newer F-150 . I put over 300k miles on a Taco before I bought the F-150 new and it was a good truck. The full size was good too but I wanted a midsize truck again and the power on the Taco’s was lacking. I’m really happy with my Ranger.

I considered the new Frontier supercab, but didn't want to wait/ If Ford made a regular cab Lariat F150 I would have gotten that. I already have a colorado that has been passed down to one of the kids. I've downsized from a Chevy 1500 and F150 to the Ranger.

This is an interesting question.

Obviously, my first choice was my Tremor. Here are the others I considered:
1) 2023 Ranger
2) 2022 F150 (too big IMO)
3) Maverick
4) Old F100
5) Mid-2000s Ranger
6) 1968 Ranchero

Colorado ZR2 Bison. And then a F150 XLT or an Explorer.

I placed an order for a Maverick in late december. I just bought a 19 Ranger about 2 weeks ago. I dont think the Maverick will get built this year so i jumped ship. Each truck has its plus and minus. I think in the end ill be happy i picked the Ranger.

I traded in my 2016 Tacoma for my Ranger. As much as I didn't want/need another full size truck I would most likely go back to an F150. I hate the thought of leaving my truck outside but I'd rather do that then drive another Taco!

Edit to add I do hope that Toyota does a full redesign of their next Gen Tacoma. This only helps all the others up their game and competition is good to keep everyone on their toes. The 2nd Gen was a really great truck minus the frame rust issues.

For me I was first looking at a Tacoma when I got interested in buying a truck. So I went to a local Toyota dealer because at first I thought I'd want to buy a used Tacoma as I normally like to buy used cars with lower miles since new ones depreciate so fast. When I went there no one greeted me on the lot. So I entered the office and a guy walked up to me and literally said, "What's up dude?" I told him, "I'm interested in a used Tacoma so what can you show me?" He replied, "Don't have any right now," then just walked away. No, "Let's show you our new inventory." No, "Can I show you something else or contact you if we get one in?" He just walked away like I was wasting his time. It was by far the strangest experience I've ever had when shopping for cars as normally dealers are on customers like hawks.

This was in spring of 2020 during the peak of Covid and when car sales were very slow. So that turned me off right there. Not just that they didn't have any used Tacomas but the complete lack of respect for me as a potential customer. Granted, I don't dress or often look like someone that has a lot of money to spend. But my grandparents used to own a clothing store and my grandfather told me once, "Never judge a customer based on what they look like. You never know how much money they have in their pocket." So that ended my Tacoma search and even if I am interested in a Toyota product in the future I'll never go back there..

Then I started looking up other trucks in the same class. That's when I found the Ranger. It appealed to me because of the size and power folding mirrors due to my fairly small garage. So I did some research, found this place, did more research and found one at a local dealer. Due to Covid prices and financing was great back then and I got 0%. So I decided for once to buy a brand new vehicle. The rest is history and Ford got a new customer while Toyota lost a potential one.

Right when I started searching for a Ranger on lots in early 2021, I stumbled across a 2018 F150 Platinum with 25,000 miles on it for $32,000 on a lot and it almost completely derailed my plan - it was a good deal then and given where truck prices are now, I really really really regret not buying it, even just to flip it. At the time I had my mind set on not going full size because I wanted to be able to garage it.

This was 2019 for me. It would've been a 2015 Tacoma. (Last of the best) But there was none to be found. Any newer than that was completely out of the question. I had over 60 tacos to choose from at my place of employment at the time with huge discounts.
The more I studied the Ranger, the more I chose to own. Co-workers threw unreliable roll eyes at me all day long. I made a wise choice I/we see.
