I am going with a cosmoline product such as:
https://www.amazon.com/CRC-06026-He...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=5WWBDBYABP0NNJXBBVNX

It seems to be longer lasting than the fluid film and does not trap moisture like rubberized undercoating. Anyone have experience with it?
Cosmoline?

Like the crap that's all over AKs imported from former Soviet block countries? I've spent days trying to clean that crap off one rifle. Be careful. Don't get it on any rubber.

salt is cheap and easy to mine
True, but Mag Chloride is safer, more efective and easier to apply. Cost should always be a consideration, just not the only consideration.

The pros more than make up for the cons. Glad I live somewhere they figured this out decades ago.

I still don't let it stay on the vehicles. But it's much better than salt.

Like 90 makes an entire system for the body shops for rust proofing the inner backside of panels. If you live anywhere there is snow this is a vital step. The liquid stuff they put on the roads gets places salt never dreamed of. The wet black spray is meant for the seams. This encapsulates the welds. The spray wax is a waxy coating very similar to what comes on a lot of new frames now days. It has a salt spray result of 4500 hours. The closest product I know to this is 3M's at 1700. You can buy a 360 wand that sprays 360 in the panel to totally encapsulate it. Wish me luck I go to pick up my very first new truck today. It is a 2021 Ford ranger XLT Sport Super Crew in Blue.

That’s what I did, with the black waxy product, and before the first winter. Undercarriage is corrosion-free, even with much salty road driving. I live 20 miles from their headquarters, so it’s vary convenient.

Typically i sand and scrape off any rust i see then apply rust reformer, then layers of mild gloss black for the chassis, then follow up with fluid film.

Body panels, same deal. I pull the taillights and get inside the crevice of bed. Inside door and rocker panels, ect.

Rangers don't need rust proofing,,,,Tacomas however.........
Here in New England, it’s obvious that every body-on-frame vehicle is vulnerable to catastrophic frame rust problems. Toyota is unique only in that they treated some model-years as a warranty issue. Every single brand is well-represented on Craigslist and in the junkyards. I drove past a 2010-ish Ranger for a couple years that was being sold for parts. The frame snapped in half at the cab/bed line, and driveshaft was the only thing holding up the center of the truck.

I always oil spray my vehicles . on the ranger I plan on doing the inside of the doors and for sure the rocker panels and this time I am going to paint the under side of the truck each year as it needs it as I due this every year on our motorhome and the next year there is less to paint as it is working !

I go to pick up my truck today at 9:30 !!! it has been a long wait from feb 11

dave
Ordered mine Feb 5th, arrived, Apr 29th add dlr installed options, picked up May 5th.

Factory rust proofing is better than in the past. My 2009 Mariner is rust-free after 12 Wisconsin salt-crusted winters. Frequent car washes is the key.

I would just get a couple cans of fluid film and spray the underside of the truck once a year. However, I live in WA now and we don't really have any rust here.

When I lived in Indiana, we always used Ziebart.
I've been using them for the last 15 years or so on the three Ford trucks I've owned in that time, and I swear by them. No rust whatsoever and the various paint treatments they have available will keep your truck looking factory fresh for years. And no, I don't own a Ziebart franchise, just a very satisfied customer.

Just ask yourself, have you ever seen an F150 without rusted out rocker panels or wheel wells? Rust and F150's seem like a marriage made in heaven (hell)? Any type of rust protection will do wonders for the long-term upkeep of your truck.

Back in my 20s there was a Ziebart, Rusty Jones or Rust Rodent, etc in every town. I thought they had all gone out of business long ago when the manufacturers started giving you rust warranty. I learned the hard way that their warranties weren't much good. If you had rust through at their discretion they could fix it or refund the purchase price. Since you couldn't fix a rust through for the cost of the treatment you just got a refund.

The only outfit I see around these days is New Hampshire Oil Undercoat. They Are usually part of an outfit that also does spray in bed liners and window tint.
