Anything has to be better than the Fx4 suspension on the 5G.

The stock 5G Sport 4x4 suspension isn't any better than the 5G FX4 version.

Actually AL @Texasota just traded in his 5G for a 6G and he'll be able to give you a good comparison between the two.

Maybe it’s just because I was used to driving old work trucks when I got the Ranger but I’ve honestly never had complaints about how my truck rides. The suspension on my wife’s Fx4 is a little stiffer than my 4x4 but it’s nothing compared my old f150… I try to keep in mind that it’s a truck. It’s not going to ride like a Rolls Royce, it’s not supposed to.

And yes, those old army jeeps are like driving a 2x4 piece of lumber! Lol my buddy has one that he restored. It’s a blast to take offroading but man, your back pays for it by the end of the weekend!

I have a 2019 Sport and I replaced the rear shocks with Bilsteins and put Michelin Defender LTX tires on it and on the highway it rides better than my wife's Edge. Drove it 1,000 miles a couple of weeks ago to northern Maine and no complaints. The tires are very quiet and ride smooth. Now it is no longer an off-road vehicle but that isn't what I bought it far. I bought it to haul a 5,000# camper on the highway. And I'm not comparing the ride against other trucks. Other than the Edge, this is the first truck I've owned in a long time. My other cars are Audis.

Maybe a marginally better highway ride in my 2026 XLT vs my 2020 XLT. But, what I have really noticed most is the side to side whiplash when going over the driveway entrance curb. In my 2020 it felt like your head really rocked side to side. That trait doesn’t exist on my 2026.

Yep, I had the rear shocks replaced on my 2021 XLT Crew soon after I bought it, then just recently replaced the original Hancooks with a set of Michelin Defender LTX MS2 tires. Just the shocks helped some, but the tires made the real difference IMO. My one brother who drives a older Ram pick up, rode with me a few weeks ago on a 3 hour trip and I let him drive on the way home, and he commented that that my Ranger handles and rides more like a car. He also owns a Ford Focus that he uses for commuting so I guess he has something to compare it to.

My 2024, xlt 4x2 rode much better than the 2022 or 2020 rangers. Its longer and wider, not by much, but it is longer and wider. The wife complains about the ride, when does she not, but, it is a truck. But it does seem to ride better.
All my rangers have been
4x2, xlt, 2.3l, elockers

Edit!
Forgot to mention, the tow mode on the 5g seems to have better programming. They changed the downshifts on the 6g, or its the transmission, do not know which.

Probably both. Transmission on the 6G is the 10r60, which is a modified version of the 10r80 in 5G.
