When it's not freezy out, i can get 23mpg on highway trips. In the freezy i can maintain 20-21ish. Reasonable accelerations and topping out at 71mph or 9 over... whichever is first.

Mixed / 1000s of miles on "trip 2" says 19. 87 octane

Holey smokes man, I dont think I have ever gotten more than 22MPG when road tripping. Even when on the stock tires but that said, it is not very flat around me either. I basically gave up until I noticed the Ford Tune gave me some mpg back. Seems to offset the K03 and then some. Not as good as bone stock but almost.


Right? My mpg is always worse than people's online reports. Even when I drive like a granny so I can only assume a good part of it is my area. Now with even more traffic lights than ever before.

I'm not sure how I get such good mileage sometimes and I'm not babying it or hyper-mileaging either. My '19 was the same and it did get a little better once I put the Livernois tune in it.

I'm guessing there aren't a lot of red lights and pretty flat landscape?

Here in Vegas you're either climbing a little or descending. Plus traffic is worse now and they keep adding traffic lights with poor timing. With picking up my kids at school (long idling), I'm lucky to get 14-15mpg with all street driving. Our Pilot isn't much better so I know it's a regional thing.

Just did a 350 mile round trip this past weekend, average was 18MPG. it seems every winter my mpg has gotten worse since i got it. In the spring summer and fall it’s a lot better. Speed when I drive is constant 60 or a constant 75. I do have an issue with fuel in the oil, but there is no way I’m loosing that much fuel. I guess it’s possible if it burns off in the pan but seems far fetched. Not sure if a drop of 4mpg compared to rest of the seasons is normal, after talking to others (different vehicles) they usually take a hit of 1 or 2 MPG. If anyone has any tips I’m all ears.

IIRC think that one was a lot of highway on our trip. My city driving there's a lot of lights and stop n go driving but it is relatively flat around this area. AR was very hilly and I didn't notice too much of a drop in my mpg there, maybe a couple tenths. I do take off from a stop fairly easy which helps but I see many mash the pedal like they're in a 1/4 NHRA drag race. lol

The winter blend will kill the mpg, I saw the same when we were in Arkansas last winter. Between the cold weather and having to let it warm up more and the winter blend mine would be mid 18 to low 19's around town.

Thanks for confirming! Makes me feel a bit better if it’s not just me. The place I moved too is much colder with more wind then where I was at before the new year, so that could have an effect too. Not sure if you noticed the same but at 75 the truck seems to loose a lot some efficiency vs 70. All the speed limits in northern Michigan are 75 so I don’t see 70 very much. I think if it had a bigger fuel tank I wouldn’t mind so much but that 17 gallons can go quick!

Having lived in AZ I noticed a huge decrease in mpg when we moved to Arkansas. We do get a touch of winter here in AZ but my truck will warm up and drop the rpms in roughly 2 minutes compared to AR which would take about 5 minutes and longer on a really cold day. You're correct about the efficiency going down over 70. I get really good mileage on the highway set around 70 but like you most here are 75 and everyone's doing 80+ which kills it fast. When I fill up my MTE is around 425 here and in AR it was around 380. Big difference.

77 MPH ~1.40

So at 77 MPH, the engine is doing ~40% more aero work than at 65 — even on dead-flat road, zero drama, steady-state.

Allegedly that alone is worth 2–3 MPG on a mid-size pickup with a brick-like frontal area.

Can confirm on the latter and assuming there's no rush, i top off at 71. There was a continually noticed .5-1mpg difference on average just dropping from 74 to 71 and about 2-3 from 79. Granted, there's also more de/acceleration going on the faster you go given dummies sleeping in the passing lane, semis slow racing, etc.... don't tell no one, but life is much more peaceful at 71mph in a 70. I only accelerate beyond that to not be the asshole sleeping in the passing lane.

This is the best mpg that the truck has had since being leveled and I switched to running 89 octane in it.

As far as the milage on the truck itself goes. I used Mike Finnegan's ROADKILL mathematics and rounded up. She's on the way to 114,000 miles lol.

Ok, 500 mile round trip... 30° F average temp; traveled South and back North; (LOL) total elevation drop from A to be B, 70 feet; Coriolis effect, minimal; 15-20 mph tail wind from the North and Northwest helped going south, opposite no help going north; cruising speed 78 mph indicated, not confirmed by GPS or other means; tire pressure 38 psi at 23° F rising to 40 psi after 30 minutes on the road, Ford Performance Tune on 93 octane BP going down; 91 octane BP coming home. Manual throttle control going south, cruise control going north (I'll explain elsewhere).

I think that covers it...

I've been running a tune and recently found ethanol free gas from 87 octane to 89 though I don't want to run less than 89 octane I typically run premium 10% ethanol from Costco. I found E85 near me and for less than two bucks a gallon I top off a couple gallons if I've fueled up at least half way with ethanol free... maybe it's winter blend too but the little bit of E85 fun juice is killing my mileage on the highway to just under 20 mpg (maybe 4 mph over limit cruise control) when I get a little over 25 mpg in the summer if I set the cruise to the speed limit.
