Is it worth using high octane fuel?as far as fuel mileage? The best I can get in my area is 90 octane

This has been beat to death on here. It does make the truck run much better running premium and some are getting a slight improvement in mpg, maybe 1. I was using 87 for almost a year and when I switched to 91 ( highest out here) I did notice a difference. Then I tuned mine and noticed a huge improvement and between the two I got about a 2 mpg (better) difference if I drive it normal.

I have the Livernois tune. I liked that one because you get all 5 if their tunes which are 87-89 soft shift & performance, 91-93 soft shift & performance and tow tune. You upload your stock Ranger tune to them through a link they send you then they will send you the tunes which you download to the tuner box called Mycal. From there you can select which tune you want to instal by simply touching it. It only takes about 2-3 minutes to instal one.

You do have to have a PC as their software is not Mac compatible. I used a friends as I have all Macs but it's a one time upload/download. Livernois has great customer support and will walk you through any or all of the instal.

Another great tuner is Unleashed. Torrie has a long history of tuning Fords and several on here have his tune also. He will do custom tunes for you if needed. I was going to go with this one but he only has email support which is great and he does get back asap. I just prefer having phone support as I usually have issues and like to be able to walk through it with a live person.

Here's what the Mycal tuner looks like. The tunes are under programing.

16000 miles and I've averaged 16.4 mpg, anyone lower?

So um, what do I "win?

I should mention that when I'm actually driving around, I get about 20MPG, but this includes quite a fair bit of sitting at idle.

4th of July week made a trip to Knoxville, Tn. from north Iowa. Almost 2,100 miles for the trip with 90% of those miles with cruise set at 72 on the freeway. Both dash and hand calc came out 24.6 mpg for the entire trip.
Hey, Iowa! It's nice to see Iowa mentioned online without a reference to meth! Whereabouts in north Iowa?

I thought I should start a thread about what kinda mileage eveyoeve is getting.

Include the type of driving you do city/highway %, driving style, gas used, if your using the auto start/stop feature and aprox engine mileage.

So I'm on my third tank of gas and tgt mileage has been improving.

  • 70%/30% city/highway
  • Average
  • 87 oct
  • Start/stop: off
  • 600 miles
  • 4x4, FX4
Computer MPG 19.5
Manual calc MPG 20.5
STX Supercab 4x4. Only ever use Premium gas. 40% Highway. 60% Urban. Always turn off Start/Stop. Use S mode a bit on Highways. 21 MPG is my personal best. Edit: 2500 miles on odometer so far.

Best mileage to date. o_O

Full discloser I had just filled up in Flagstaff and we went to Sedona down Oak Creek Canyon Rd. About 10-12 miles of it is straight downhill and you never touch the gas once.

Less than 600 km...not much of a real world readout but that's what it is so far. Anyone know why the current mpg/ L/100 km is reading 99.9? Truck was parked.
