I did the LED light mod to disable the start/stop feature. Worked perfectly for 7 months.

Recently, the truck has been doing the start/stop thing. I checked the LED and it was very loose. Not that it backed out, the whole outlet is "worn" or broken. I've tried various "plugs" and they are all loose and wiggle out.

Anyone seen this happen? Anyone know how to get to it? I've reverted to pushing the button to disable the start/stop thing., but I'm getting older and since I'm not driving the truck much in the summer (I take the Harley Trike instead), I almost always forget to push it. It kind of scares me when it shuts off, well actually when it starts back up.

I'm gonna take a look at it tomorrow or at least soon, but, I may just go the forscan route. I've hesitated because my only PC is an older one and I'm not sure it will run forscan. I bought this PC machine at a pawn shop. I've switched over to Mac and iPhone and am not looking to head back. It's an older vista machine that has had upgrades and is now running windows 10. Only reason I bought it was to update my Harley GPS maps (Haley doesn't support Mac either).

I don't use the 110 outlet for anything, so Forscan seems a better route.

This truck was purchased used, so at 35k miles, not sure Ford will repair it under warranty. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Forscan should work fine on a Vista-era machine, it's not a computation-heavy application. More like a user-friendly communication interface to the truck's computer.

It can also work with a Mac, but that's more technical.

There's a post here that links to a YouTube video showing how to get the panel off for the outlet - it appears to just pop off. From there you can replace it or modify it if that's your thing.

Kewl ... thanks for the link ... After my podiatry appointment, I'll be checking that little sucker out.

I'll probably dig into the Forscan thing in the winter ... I pretty much shut down the outdoor stuff and do my tech stuff (such as it is) in the winter. Keeps me from getting bored over the winter.

I have a vehicle program I "wrote" in Filemaker that takes over 4 gig of storage on my phone and Mac .... only took me about 400-500 hours during the Covid winter, but, kept me from loosing my mind ... LOL. Looks like Covid Winter Delta maybe coming, so that could be a plan.

Sounds like a good way to spend the winter! If you are interested in trying to get Forscan working on a Mac, check the Forscan forums, there are a few threads to walk you through it.

If you want to physically check the outlet, the panel it is mounted in just pulls off.
This. Not sure if the part will be fixable but it'll be easy to replace.

I believe 3/36 bumper to bumper applies regardless of 1st owner or not. That has been my limited experience in the past.

I went out and looked at it this morning ... it was still dark, so I didn't pull the panel ... when you put the LED light into the plug, it feels like the plug just moves "in". I'm thinking there is probably a couple screws or clips that hold it in place that have just come loose.

I'll look at it later today.

Correct Jesse. Alan, at less than 36K miles it's still under warranty if you want to go that route.

FORScan is certainly a fairly easy way to disable the Start Stop "Feature", But I can give you a way to disable it even easier...

Pop the hood and look at the battery terminal on the drivers side. Unplug the little connector sticking out the side of the terminal. (Typical locking connector, you have to push in the tab to unlock and then it slides off)

Done, no more start stop...

Bumper to bumper is 3/36.

I had good luck on previous Ford with an interior trim piece @35k miles.

Regardless of you ASS fix I'd take it in. The worst they could say is no.

I pulled the panel off. The plug "pops out" of the panel. It has been abused, guessing by the previous owner, cause I didn't do it ... LOL.

Anyway, I took the little plug box apart (don't try this if you are not patient and familiar with tiny springs & switches ... LOL) and both little brass female prongs look like a screw driver or something was pushed into them. The one prong was cracked and was no longer functional. There is also wear marks on the plastic.

I called my buddy at the Ford dealer, and a replacement plug isn't all that expensive and should be here in 5 days. Not a big deal since I'm mostly riding the trike now. If it rains, I'll just push the button when I drive the truck ... :giggle:.

Just for grins, if I pull the connector on the battery cable, what do I loose, IE, what is that connector for?

You lose auto start stop. If I had to guess it allows the start stop to monitor battery voltage as it won't activate if the battery is low for obvious reasons. The system thinks the battery is low all the time with the connector unplugged.

Might try that until I do the Forscan thing
