I’m going to be selling my old truck when my new one arrives.
I’m debating on taking my Compustar remote and having it installed in my new Ranger.

How well does the Ford Pass app work to start your vehicles?

My Compustar has been rock solid and works from a mile away. Thinking it may be pointless though with the app.

its hit and miss.

today i only wanted to unlock the door and stood beside it watching the stupid whirly thing go round and round until it timed out.

I'd say 95% of the time it works flawlessly....the times it doesn't its annoying.

After todays fiasco, I wished it was also Bluetooth capable so when your feet away from the truck with sketchy WIFI or cell service it would still function so you can get in at least.
^^ This .

Mine never stops the whirly go round at my place of employment and it's hit and miss at home . If you and where the vehicle is parked have good cell service at the same time it will work but don't expect it to work everywhere or all the time .

During times that it wants to work(most of the time) it works well. Just understand that some guy at Ford decided it was best to use AT&T for the mibile device so it relies heavily on no reception. Your phone will be a different story. As long as you dont have a damn Google Phone you should be in the clear(its something with Google phones)

When it works it’s great. That is about 98% of the time. When it does not you better hope you did not leave your keys in the cab because “I can unlock it with my phone.” Technology is great when it works.

My Motorola is only 3 years old, and the Ford app won't work (only app I've tried that hasn't). Coworkers also find it intermittent at times.

I just got a compustar because I have them in all my cars.

Can't beat a compustar if you actually want it to work every time.

They also have their own app now, but you gotta pay after the first few months or year or something.

I agree with most of the above comments, I'll ignore the one by the obvious apple fan boy. It has worked on my android phone very well, when I needed it. Yes it can be sketchy when you or your truck have bad cell reception. The only way it communcates with your truck is a cell connection through the Ford servers. Yes, the connection to the truck is via ATT cell service. Inside buildings especially commercial buildings can be problimatic. I have a neice who lives in a cell dead zone, doesn’t matter what carrier, no service. It won't work there.

I have had great luck using the Ford App to start my Ranger. 98% of the time it works great. I start it most every morning. I do have AT&T too ever since I got my first cell phone.

would not even consider a vehicle without it now that im used to it , i thought it was satellite , not cell , that does explain its quirkeyness from time to time , but my fob works from a damn good distance so no worries...

I have found on my Dad's Ranger it's very sporadic when you need it. I figure if you have somewhat decent service on your phone, I'd expect the truck to reasonably communicate through the system. But as is, YMMV.

Just curious who the Apple Fan Boy is? I know I mentioned an issue with the Google Phones(only a small percentage of the Android phones all together) but I dont recall anything about Apple.

Me too... I think I'm the only one that mentioned phone brand.

If he's talking about me because the app won't run in my Motorola (I'm actually a Moto fan), and I recommend a remote over an app, then that's a conspiracy.

Regardless, I live somewhere cold and use it everyday. And cell service can be spotty.

Why not have both remote and app?

depends on how strong your local cell reception is. mine can be sketchy so it is hit or miss. oddly enough I have best luck setting a start time. 30 minutes or more earlier. (so mornings when it is cold I set a time of starting at 7:05am and dutifully it starts then even if it takes a couple of tries to get through.
for lock unlock, that is what the keyfob is for. even under best conditions it takes nearly a minute to respond to the app request.
