Yup...when real little had the cap guns that used the roll of tape caps.
Later had the spring loaded toy guns that shot the rubber tipped darts...no "Soft Nerf Guns"
Yup, lived in New Orleans and played in the local creek....caught crawfish back then which no one would eat cause they were considered garbage. Caught brim which we'd bring home and mom would cook them up.

Ate lots of fried foods cooked in...OMG...lard !!!
Built model kits using real glue !!!
Played with BB Guns..."Watch out, you'll put your eye out" !!!
Played with sling shots..."Watch out, you'll put your eye out"
Played real games, outside...football and baseball...."What was a video game???"
Played outside and never worried about being abducted or "drive by shootings".
Had one family car and...OMG...only one black and white tv that picked up 3 channels.
If lucky, had a little transistor radio.
Had a 50 cent a week allowance that I had to do chores to earn.
"Toys" were my Lincoln Log Set and an Erector Set.
I had my first .22 at 8 years old and a 14 foot flat-bottom boat with 20 HP mercury and would spend entire days in the bayous leading to the Gulf of Mexico. My dad said just turn back when you run out of gas in the first 5-gallon can.

Looking back, I don't know how I didn't get lost or eaten by an alligator (.22s would ricochet off their backs).

And I wouldn't trade my childhood for anything, so awesome. =D

I had a Crossman bb/pellet gun right around that same age. That's when you could keep pumping them up for more power. Boy my dad wasn't to happy when he found all the holes in the side of our metal shed.

I still have my Benjamin .22 pellet gun (not the wimpy .177). I see it every time I go down to the basement. =D

Same here, I'd pump it until I couldn't pump it anymore.

Man, I'm getting old! =p

Just bought my 30 yr old son this for Christmas...he's already killed at least 4 squirrels with it (didn't want to use his .22 rifle due to proximity to some of his neighbors).
He loves it!

Remember it all. Don't forget party lines. What was AC? Oh ya, open the window and hope for a breeze. Old farm house, drafty windows and no insulation in the walls. Coal and wood octopus in the basement, hoping convection got some heat to your upstairs bed room. Never had a BB or pellet gun. On a nice summer day grab the .22 a box of shells, hope on the bike and ride through town to the woods and plink chipmunks. Nobody said a word, just waved at you.

Those were definitely the good old days. No stress. Wouldn’t trade them for anything.

Did your folks give you the "parental speech" when you complained about walking to school about how when they were young, had to walk "20 miles, in a blinding snow storm, in our bare feet, just to get to school" ?
