To continue this discussion from the Bedside Racking thread on whether cheap recovery boards are worth buying or spending more for something Like Maxtrax or ARB.

@zaashf, I had seen that video you posted and I looked into the X-Bull boards but found a lot of bad reviews on them. Sure they're cheap and like you they would probably be well enough for me. But in that instance when you really need them and they fail was it really worth the savings? I'm pretty frugal but have learned some things are with spending the extra money on and I feel these are one of those items. Maybe someone else can chime in with some good experiences with cheaper boards as I'd love to be able to spend less on these. Or did you buy cheap ones and they failed and with you bought better ones to start?

Most reviews I saw talked about cracking in cold weather. That's the biggest problem I found so it was an easy call to buy them over maxtrax. I don't think a small crack will make the difference in them getting you out if a bind. I can buy a few sets for the cost of maxtrax. I'm not driving through Africa so if something catastrophic does happen to them on a trip, I can have them replaced by the next weekend

Cold weather isn't an issue here and I do more rocky terrain off roading opposed to beach and soft sand. As far as small cracks I guess that depends how and where you're stuck and need these to get you out. A lot of times it's just me and my gf out so having something of better quality is worth it to me even if I have to pay double or even triple. It's gonna cost you that if not more to get help.

@AzScorpion FYI - the Maxtrax you linked above are cheaper from Maxtrax directly. I don't know what shipping is, but savings is savings. I have nothing else to contribute, I was just reading and researching.
Thx for the heads up! I always search around once I'm ready to buy but it was easier to link Amazon as I'm always on there. They use to be the cheapest place to buy from but lately I've been getting better deals either from other vendors or directly from the manufacturer like you said. That divorce must of cost him more than he thought it would. lol

I saved my money and didn't get the Cadillac trax. I'd only pay more if I needed them continuously. I picked up some knock off on Amazon. My son uses old carpet tiles from his jobsites.

Since this topic came up I’ve trolling around amazon to see the offerings for traction boards. I had no idea ARB had such an expanded lineup. I thought there was only the TRED Pro’s. If I ever did need new ones in the future I might consider the GT’s or HD’s. Plus the color selection is crazy

Seems like they’re new to the lineup

Do you remember which one you bought, I've seen several cheaper ones on Amazon with good reviews. Problem is that most haven't had a chance to use them yet so there's no telling how they'll work out. I'm just trying to figure out if I'm overthinking this or will the cheaper ones be good enough?

Not junk cheap but looks and feels rugged enough...The most I've used them for is leveling my truck...maybe I'll put them to use at the beach if I get stupid lol...

I received an email about a week ago from ARB with their new line of boards. I saw that same chart you listed and had no idea either they had such an extensive line. Yes the colors are crazy cool too. ?

You get stupid...Come on man. ? Let me know if you get a chance to try them out. I'm in no rush to get a set and ultimately will be using them more in the Bronco but would like to have them in the Ranger too.

Price isn't to bad either. The GT is $200 and the HD is $256. The GT's might be a good compromise, not to cheap but still not crazy expensive while giving you good performance and durability.
