I drive mostly back roads and highway and weekends off road to get my boat in the water but want to upgrade my stock rear shocks..Looking at the 5100 and the 4600.. looks like the 4600 is more of a stock replacement but the 5100 is more of an off road shock. Will the 5100 be better? I’m ok with spending the extra money if the shock is going to perform better with a smooth ride..Thanks

TLDR; They’re the same except for max extension length is longer on the 5100 but that only matters if you also install a lift.

I see little talk on here about Rancho shocks. Have fallen out of fashion and not trendy anymore or are they garbage?
rancho had fallen out of favor. decades ago they were very popular. Rancho was the go to. I think - not sure- that a lot of Rancho stuff is now made overseas and the quality control is not what it was in the past.

the bils 4600 are going to be a good improvement over the factory shocks. the 5100 are similar size shape and parts but are valved differently, different pressure and larger length making them "tuned" more for off road. I am not bad mouthing them, they are great shocks. but if your mostly on road the 4600 may be the smoother choice.

Many moons ago I had them on a GMC pickup with a 6” lift and re arched springs to fit large monster truck style tires, they were popular for that type of app, not sure but maybe there not a fit for the current Rangers, also there seems to be more choices today.

4600’s and 5100’s are valved the same.
If you’re going stock height in the rear-4600
If you’re going to a 1” lift in the rear-5100

Agree 👆 Although, I went with the 5160s that have the extra reservoir in the rear. Love'em!

I had 5100s on my 2020 and 4600s on my 2023. Both had no lift. Subjectively, they felt the same to me.
