I guess we just have different expectations. For a 40k + truck, I expect they should be able to tell me where it is at any given moment, and if it is going to be delayed from what they told me, I would expect they could tell me WHY it is being delayed (it doesn't have to be "Bob from the body shop is fixing a dent", just a general "quality hold"), along with a reasonable ETA of when I can expect it. Saying "I don't know, and I don't know when you can expect it" is just (as someone else put it "piss poor customer service".

Hell, I've gotten a better status on my $30 tailgate damper from carid.com!!!! It is delayed, but they have called me twice to tell me it is delayed, giving me the option of cancelling my order or waiting.

I'm done ranting.....
It’s so funny, I go through moments of utter disgust with this process to total Zen peace. I had a hearty chuckle when I sent a scathing email to Ford corporate only to have a very timely and kind reply letting me know I had emailed Ford in India. We are all in this together and were it not for this group, I’d bailed on Ford weeks ago. This has been one worst customer service experiences I’ve ever encountered and I am not a unreasonable person by any means. I appreciate the candor and the sharing of our journeys towards the goal of sitting behind the wheel of our Rangers. Ranting is totally acceptable.

Tracker updated this morning to awaiting shipment. Still delivery in 14 days on 4/9. But then this evening it is now in transit "Est. 22 days." Awaiting shipment has not been checked off and delivery is still 14 days on 4/9:question:

I guess from my perspective if it's sitting around in production then it's obvious that something has gone wrong, and if it was quick & easy to fix they'd have fixed it already and it wouldn't need an ETA. The internet has just changed perceptions; 30 years ago if this had happened the dealer would have just made up some BS answer and you wouldn't have any way to know any better and would be happy with the BS. Now when the dealer BS's you can quickly find that out online.
It's not 30 years ago. Ford has the same access to technology as everyone else and the means to have even better technology. So far my experience has been good, even with my delivery date changing 4 times since it shipped. Those things happen. However those who ordered trucks in Oct and have no idea where they stand is unacceptable. What makes it worse is Ford seems to not care and is not being truthful with those customers. I don't care if you get you information from the internet or gossip in a grocery store. If my truck was lost like Ric and others and Ford was blowing smoke out my ass I would be pissed too. I don't care what business you are in, poor customer service is unacceptable.

I think the tracking board from ford is a customer service nightmare. My truck was ordered in November was to be delivered march 3rd. Every time I check the board it add a day. I am up to 23 days from today couple of days ago it was 19 days!!!!! My truck was built in late January. My salesmen told me ford ran out of steering wheels that's unbelievable.

Again, what are you actually looking for? Something's broken and Ford doesn't know when it will be fixed. If someone doesn't like that answer they can walk away. The fact that some of the dealers them make something up instead of just admitting they don't know would make me more eager to walk away from those particular dealers. As far as I can tell it isn't Ford making stuff up, it's dealers (who don't work for Ford).

There was a strike at at supplier plant in Mexico that caused a steering wheel shortage. Short of blaming Ford for not making them in house, that was out of their control. And, I've only heard of Mustang and Explorer being affected by it.

Does the above excuse what had happened to some customers orders? Absolutely not. But I think some dealers have no answers for what is happening and they are using the supplier strike for cover.

To me it seems like Ford doesnt like special orders. They would rather you went to the dealer an picked out something close or not to what you want. They would rather build cookie cutter trucks. Remember what Henry Ford said "you can have any color you want as long as it is black. " Socialism says you all have to have the same thing. It is easier to keep the herd together.

You're right, its not thirty years ago...
In 1984 I ordered a new Ford Tempo TRX. It too was a fresh new product. I was promised delivery in just 4 weeks.
Mine was ordered with a sunroof and the production was delayed due to the supplier of the headliners.
When I inquired I was given a fresh build date with an explanation.
When the second shipment of headliners was defective, I called once again, this time to Ford Quality Control. My call was directed to the office of the director himself.
He promised to check into the problem.
He called me back in a timely manor and apologized that it would be another week.
When the headliners failed to meet standards again he called me back and asked if I would prefer to cancel the sunroof.
I said "No I'll wait a while longer"
A week or so later, I got a call from him personally, to apologize once again and say...
"Your car will be built on Thursday. I am sorry for the delay but I'll be in KC on Thursday and if you and your wife would like to come out, I will give you a tour of the factory."
We did go and got a personal tour from him.
My car had already been built by the time we arrived.
The man arranged to put our car on convoy the next day, last car on the truck and first one off.
It was delivered to my dealer on that Sunday. The key was placed on the top of the left rear tire and my dealer was called at home to inform him.
I was treated like a CUSTOMER beyond any reasonable expectations!
At that time Ford was using the slogan...
"Ford wants to be your car company"

I'm beginning to wonder whether they still do?

WOW, the tracking site has a new message for me this morning. It indicates there is a supply shortage and they expect to have things moving again in late April. They are encouraging contact with the dealership to keep updated.

Maybe enough complaints. I called Ford customer service yesterday to complain. Here is the message on the tracker.

FWIW, my tracker said/says 4/4 but my truck was delivered yesterday and is sitting at the dealer waiting for me to pick it up in the morning. I think the tracker should be taken with a giant dose of salt.

It just seems like there must be something else to the story. Your truck is very similar to mine - mine was built about a month after yours, and mine is now in transit. If they were having shortages of parts, you'd think they would put any inventory on trucks waiting the longest? Maybe I'm just naive and don't understand how all this stuff fits together, but something just doesn't seem to add up.

We can only guess, but I think top priority to Ford is to keep the line running. The part often quoted as being the issue is the steering wheel. The shortage is probably because of a supplier batch of defective steering wheels that were installed and need to be replaced. They are not going to take the replacements out of the line production parts, but have to wait for the supplier to provide additional units to replace the defective parts. Mine has been in production status since 2/7
