I think it was also Toyota that got called out for advertising bottom dollar deals to attract people in the door, and never having those cars available for sale. They would essentially try to upsell you to a higher model and were quite successful is getting people to overpay on their budget

Corporate drone. Dilbert's world is alive & well.
The average income in the states is 56k for males and almost 47k for females.

The average new vehicle price is over 48k.

The average joe can certainly afford a Ranger Raptor, unless they're completely hopeless with money or they're living above their means in other areas of their life.
Sorry, but a huge argument can be made here. It could really go down a financial rabbit hole. I'll just say that no one earning $47K, or $56K should be out dropping their hard earned money on a vehicle selling for more than their annual salary. Absolutely zero financial argument to make such a decision. When you say "afford," afford how? By stretching payments to 84 months or some stupid thing? That is not "affording" by any stretch of the imagination.

Flip side is individual priorities. Could I afford a RR? Guess I've been fortunate because yes I could. Without a problem. But would I spend that sort of money on a vehicle? Not a snowballs chance in hell. Shit, agreeing to spend $47K or whatever it was for my (one day will arrive) Ranger didn't make me happy. Just too flipping much money for a vehicle. As my builder said one time when we were laughing about people who lived in... let's say less than stellar accommodations... would do anything to drive the vehicle they wanted: "Hey man, really like your new truck. But your house needs some work."

This is so true and you hit the nail right on the head! ?

As much as I want a Ranger Raptor (and can afford one) I refuse to pay some outrageous markup which I know they'll have. I'd much rather have a PHEV Ranger and add some mods to that. I'm sure there will be dealers who mark that one up too but there are some throughout the country who still are honest and sell for msrp. I'd rather travel or have it shipped than pay my local dealer extortionist any extra.

Priorities...lol I've been saying this for years. People will stand in line overnight for the newest iPhone yet swear they'll never be able to retire because they have no money. Don't get me started on the ones who spend days camping out for Black Friday deals.

Wild to think car loans have gone sub-prime

I should start investing properties instead of toys. I'm with you on this. Someday I will be retired and hopefully I can say been there done that and tried this or that.

I am glad have done this here in the Philippines. We bought properties in 2012 and they gone up 150% so far and still climbing. Monday we're going to look at a big lot that is 6000 sqm.

I have found many good, inexpensive options. But I also have a 500k usd policy that cost me $1862 annual. But I have other medical cards that were very cheap. You can find good medical clinics and it's cheap. The one next to my house cost me $9 to see the doctor, and I had a xray of my foot that was $6.

That's good. My father will usually travel back here to US for all his medical needs.

I understand what he's talking about - I'm just saying it doesn't make sense when the raptor has a wider stance and way bigger tires than most modified rangers. Maybe I'm misinterpreting his tone, but he seems to be looking down on people that modify their truck's suspension while somehow praising a truck with the same features because it's OEM and has wide fenders.

I guess challenging that attitude makes me a bully?
no i think he is talking about stancy boys not people who have proper suspension setup and wider tires/wheels to do offroading but at the same time i could be wrong
