Yup. I know there is a non-auto sensing setting. In my original post I referred to that setting as a "normal setting". It seems like the timing on the settings in the truck with auto-sense are different than the timing in the truck that did not have the option.

It is safe to say I may be operating it incorrectly. But I'm pretty sure I know how to turn off the auto-sense, and use the timed wipe settings.

When I got my truck, I turned everything off that had an option. I'm generally not a fan of automated systems, but planned on trying each system on it's own, when time and opportunity presented itself.

Most of the systems were tried and turned back off, but I had forgotten about the rain sensing wipers until a recent thread reminded me. This morning I turned them back on, and now I'm anxious for rain to see how well the systems works.

What say you? Do you have it on, if so love it or hate it? Is it reliable? Do they come on when not needed?
I leave mine on, they actually work quite well, particularly in summer, though I've had the odd bug spatter trip them, making a big mess!

True story: Long ago one of the s boxes I was driving went on a road trip. Started raining really hard. We had wipers on full tilt and it was barely keeping up with current rain fall. Well on the highway the driver side wiper decided to fly off and just the arm was left scraping the windshield. That ain’t gonna work with this rain. Pulled under a bridge and put passenger side on driver side. That will get us to the next gas station. Well, got there and they didn’t stock them. Buddy had to use the bathroom and while in there spotted a pair of playtex rubber gloves in green. Popped them onto the wiper arms middle finger extended and good enough for us! Off we went into the rainstorm again. Cop spots us and pulls us over. He couldn’t stop laughing. Told us to get it fixed as soon as we came up on someplace to get replacements.

I've had to do something similar to a Milktruck on route before.

Good times!

So I just took a drive and it started to rain. Twice I hit the wipers for a single pass. I went in to settings to ensure I had turned them to auto, and they were, but didn't activate. Ima leave them for now, and give them another test. I have rain in the forecast 9 of the next 14 days. Free car washes!!!
I did about 3 hours of driving in the rain down I-25 today and got a chance to check a few things out...

The truck with the auto-sense setting has a secondary setting which indicates a single rain drop, all the way to four rain drops, which is the sensitivity during auto-sense. When the auto sense setting is on, the sensitivity appears to be controlled by the secondary option (a sliding knob).

The images on the lever arm indicate: 1 up=auto, 2 up= single fast, 3 up= double fast...

When a truck IS NOT equipped with the auto sense option, a user gets more than 2 timed settings. When the truck IS equipped with this technology, the auto-sense takes the first up position, and it has variable sensitivity, but does not get 3 timed options.

I seriously did not like the wipers so far, and I think I have got it worked out. The sensitivity relates to a camera and it appears to have a lag time. If you are passing a truck and need to use the fastest setting, this is the best option; otherwise, setting the auto-sense to the most sensitive setting, and allowing it to catch up seemed to work well.

Mine work just fine. I forget about them till it drizzles or rains.

wish they had a speed between casual wipe and about to break off your car trying to make sure no rain sits on the window for more than .001 seconds. Not a fan of the auto setting.
Gotta agree with ya Jimmy. The CEO of my humble empire has them on her Mustang. Dang wipers had a mind of their own. I could be driving on a sunny day, hit a spot in the road where there was shade, and the dang things would just do a couple wipes sometimes. I never figured that out, so they are off until it starts actually raining. They do pretty well, but they do have a tendency to go supersonic at times.
