I've been running the mountune for over a year with an electric fan. The only time the fan even kicks on is if I've been sitting in traffic for a while on a hot day and/or the ac is running. I'm running the stock thermostat. And when I decelerate for a bit it even drops below the thermostat level. This triple pass really works. Quality is good and definitely cools better than stock. I have pics in my build thread.

We need more information on this.

For starters when exactly are you Overheating? Is this on Flat Ground? Is it on a Hill? Is it on a Dirt Road in 4WD?

This information is important

I am on the fence here - Radiator or Trans Oil Cooler or Fan Clutch.
As long as the space between the (Condenser & Radiator) is clear of debris and leaves.
The only true way to check the Radiator would be a flow test.
I would check the color of the Transmission Fluid and also monitor / check the Trans fluid temp to check the operation of the fluid cooler.
The fan clutch would most likely show itself without towing, so that leaves the Radiator & Tans Cooler for only overheating (When Towing & Heavy Load) as there is a restricted flow or heat dissipation issue in either or both.

What electric fan are you running? Is it set up to turn on and off with the stock computer or is separate?

Additionally....exactly what temps are you hitting and how are you noting the temps ? A Scan Gauge or one of the apps ???
Asking as normal operating range for the Ranger can go as high as 220-225....and thats considered within normal temp range.
It might be a shock/worry as you don't often see temps that high and when you do it might lead to worry that there's a problem.
Towing our 28 foot travel trailer during summer months my Scan Gauge has hit has high as 215 and tranny temps have also hit 215-218.......both considered within normal temps....not overheating.
Also, how are your "friends and mechanics" making the determination that it is overheating, and what "test" are the preforming to make that determination ???
You also posted it only overheats when towing in in trip[le digit heat, up a grade or with a heavy load ....ect ect.....but in normal operation it does fine.
I would think if the rad was bad, it would overheat all the time, even running solo.
Again, its all based on just what temps your seeing when it "overheats".

yeah i didnt think you had it setup to the stock system , figured maybe it was a piggy back system. I'll have to go through your post and look for it.

Well I bought the Mountune Radiator. Now I need to find a shop to install it. Mountune is about 45 minutes from me so hopefully shipping is quick. Total was $357 with free shipping and 10% off code.

To give additional feedback on my setup here are some contributing factors.
  • Fox 2.5 suspension set at roughly 1.5 inches above stock
  • 650lb coils up front - up from stock 550lb springs for the Fox 2.5
  • 33" Wildpeak mud terrains. I prefer KO2's but I got this set for free so I can't complain....although my truck complains. These tires are heavy!
  • SmartCap EVOa - first edition with roof rack
  • Roam 95L cases on top of cap.
  • UptopOverland roof rack above cab
  • Big ARB bumper
  • Warn Winch
  • 55l fridge in truck bed
  • Dual battery system with 100ah Renogy battery in truck bed
  • 1000 watt inverter, and accessories also in truck bed.
  • OME heavy duty leaf springs
  • Air Lift 5000 air bags
  • Hiker Trailer - Extreme Offroad with 33" all terrains. (approximately 3000lbs fully loaded.) Dry weight is 2200lbs

It was in stock when I got mine. I just stopped by after work and grabbed it. It's not that big a job to swap it.

Mountune Radiator just arrived. It's considerably better built than the stock one. This thing is stout. I hope it performs better too. I have a new thermostat and about 4 gallons of coolant waiting for install

Hopefully it will cure the overheating issue.

It only overheats under heavy load, towing up a grade or climbing in triple digit heat, fully loaded with camping gear. Under normal circumstances it seems to run ok. But when I climb it goes into limp mode. I do get a warning first. I can typically get through it by letting off the gas, coasting, turning off the A/C and turning up the heater
You're just asking too much of the stock system. Bigass tires, lots of things hanging off the truck, lots of wind resistance and taller gearing (from the tires that is), and thinner air to boot. This is one of those cases where the Ford 10% for every 1000 feet in altitude derate comes in to play and why they call it out in the manual.

Hopefully the radiator will help, I think you're going to need the added capacity given those parameters.

I guess damage to the stock setup was ruled out. Can't imagine damage could have been caused by front intrusion because other stuff is there. Is the fan clutch rubber support hose in one piece?

Odd thought about airflow and stuff in front of the rad - upgraded intercoolers seem to have more mass and I haven't considered the thermal effect of working the condenser hard.
