This week things are more calm. mom seems to be doing ok but i havent noticed any improvement in several days now. im hoping that this is not the peak of her recovery. her memory is still nearly gone and her speaking ability is the same as it was weeks ago. i havent given up hope of course but its rough to see her not herself if that makes sense.
Mark, I know how you’re feeling. When my mom was in recovery it seems she was about the same as your mom with progress at this point. A therapist told us to act as everything is normal. Your mom knows her condition and is probably self conscious about it. It will impeded her recovery. Slow and steady is what professionals instructed us to do. It took months for some things to normalize again. For my mom writing in cursive was extremely frustrating for her. This one is really more about patience with all involved more than anything else. If you saw my mom today you would never know she was that bad once!

so moms doing about the same. progress is still happening just seems to be going really slowly now. ive tried to sort of put it out of my mind or see it as the new normal. me and medicare, doctors and pharmacy have all been several rounds now. I try to be as nice as possible but it seems like so many mistakes go unnoticed in healthcare situations. I think a lot of it is due to places being understaffed. Thankfully things are going well enough at moment that skilled nursing and another rehab stay are not needed. After visiting a few nursing facilities I can honestly say I hope no one ever has to be in one. Thank you all so much for the well wishes, prayers and words of support. It really helps more than I can say.

Glad to hear mom is still doing well. Just take it one day at a time Mark and we'll all continue to pray and have you both in our thoughts. Both my grandmothers were in a nursing home back in MA but luckily we had some really good ones in that area. Yes it's very sad how bad the healthcare is (in most areas, not all) and being the USA we should be MUCH better than this! It's good she's able to stay at home where you all can help and look after her. Please keep us updated and try not to stress yourself out which I know is tough. ?

It’s definitely a tough transition for all of you Mark and I’m glad to hear there is some progress in your mom’s recovery. I hope you and your dad can stay strong for her as well as for each other - it might be a very long road.

At first, there is so much to consider and do on your part and it doesn’t help that it all happens at once - it can be a bit overwhelming. I hope that as you get the day-to-day care, medical, finances and other things in order, you’ll find that you’re settling into a bit more of a routine. It sure might seem like Groundhog Day but that will help tone down some of the stress and anxiety. I hope the days get better and better for all three of you and that your mom’s condition improves.

Just as you’ve said how the support expressed by the members here is helping you, your love and support is what’s helping your mom recover. So, stay strong, keep doing what you’re doing for her and your dad, and the members here will keep sending prayers and support so that you can.

Feel free to reach out anytime.

Glad your mother is making progress, Mark. It’s a blessing ya’ll are able to care for her at home. My mother had Alzheimer’s. We were able to care for her at home, but it sure wasn’t easy, so I know a little of what you’re going through. Sounds like y’all are doing a great job. I will continue to pray for you all. Hang in there. God Bless!

Mark,
Really encouraged to hear about the forward progress even though its slow. Strokes are generally known for slow recoveries so patience is the key. Went thru several of them with my Mom. Your reports here are reminders for us to pray about the things you are going through and you and your Mom and Dad's needs. Hanging in for you guys!

Thank you for the update Mark. I will continue praying for you and your Mom. It’s always good to hear what is happening. Praying without knowing the results is always harder, but faith building. I’m a ways away from you, but if there is something those of us far away can do, let us know.

It sounds like this a frustrating struggle for you, but it equally sounds like you are doing a great job. Your Mom is fortunate to have you. Thanks Mark.

i took all of the suggestions yall had today! it was a long day but a productive one. after asking around a few places moms pcp and i both decided on the same place, baylor scott white in patient rehab. some of the nursing homes i went by were pretty awful. i dont wanna sound like an ass but it kinda makes me wanna just die suddenly one day at home in bed or while im fishing or something other than being in a nursing home. most of them looked pretty nice at casual glance, a couple were fancy. but no one in any of them looked happy, patients or staff. even the ones i only called sounded grumpy... i also got listed as signer / agent or owner on mom and dads accounts so i can handle the bills for them and make sure things are paid on time. took mom out for a ride in the geriatric cruiser (buick) around town for a bit just to be outside. then i made some mexican food she likes for dinner. her blood sugar is staying pretty level so im happy for that. dads getting a little better with her meds and time so that makes me feel a little better if i have to leave them alone to go any where. in the middle of all this extra stuff and less sleep i guess i managed to get my self sick lol. sinus infection, sore throat. so i took some extra vitamins and im gonna sleep earlier if i can. still got a lot to do but it was a good day. i feel better knowing a plans set for rehab and i that i can monitor the bills for them. apparently the cell phone bill and internet for mom and dad was 3 months behind. that cost me about 400 lol. or 4.2 tanks of gas... Thank you all for the support suggestions and prayers. I dont think id be doing as well without yall!
You are a good son.
