I've been in the states since 1980 and my dad's from Detroit. I do miss it sometimes and it can be really beautiful. Of course, you're in Alberta with some of the world's most beautiful mountains.

I have a Proven Industries since they make my hitch lock. I also have some padlocks that are nice for other applications. My Proven Industries seems solid.

I uave locking pins that i bought at a trailer store. Both pins rated for 10k, hitch 10k and ball at 8k. I use a lock on the safety pins of the trailer

As others have suggested, i store everything inside the cab. The hitch is big but fits behind the seat. And only have locking pins so no one disconects and rolls the trailer to there receiver hitch.

I know opinions are like assholes, everyone has one, but i have seen too Many bent b&w hitches.

Yeah, locking it up is the best way, as expensive as some hitches are, they're tempting to steal.

And maybe even worse, being without your hitch, regardless of its cost, can be a disaster!

If you haven't made a decision yet, you might look at www.Amplock.com. They are over the northern border but pretty close to you. I use them, both hitch pins with my B&W stow & go and their trailer tongue locks.

Thanks for the link 1pt21gw! That looks really good and I love that it also uses a cotter pin. For $99, it looks like a strong pin that might fit the bill. Since it's a cylinder, it may be easier to block access to it using pipe attached to the hitch so that it's harder to break off with a piece of pie and harder to reach with a die grinder.

I have never seen that pin and I've done tons of googling for a good solution, thanks again 1pt21gw!

Edit: dug in deeper and the part that gets held by the lock is much larger than others and it has two places that get locked in, instead of one, so it looks like it would survive a pipe attack much better. Thanks again!

Update: going with the AMPlock, it's a beast and the narrowest part of the pin looks thicker than anyone else's which should equate to higher break strength for pipe attacks.

Yep, I got 4 now. Although, I have had to brush up on my French to understand some things.

They make getting things keyed the same easy as you get more from them. Hold on to your key code key.

I actually bent one pin (Dont ask how) and the lock wouldn't come off, had to re-bend the pin and it unlocked. Pretty secure as far as I see it.

Glad to help,
Jason

I received mine on Saturday and like the heftyness of it. And the large diameter of the lock would mean a larger pipe for that type of attack. And "wow" on bending one! Holy smokes, I can only imagine doing that if it wasn't all the way through the ball mount and pulling on a heavy trailer.

Thanks again for letting me know about it, it's the first thing I've ordered for a truck I don't even have yet! =D
