Like his review. Wish Ford had made an effort in designing the bed and interior of our Rangers like they did with the Maverick. Feeling a little disappointed with my Ranger now.
There's lot of little things that are missing on the Ranger, but it is a recycled (old) design, not ground up new. The bed stuff is nice and I hope it gets included in the 6G.

Why no bed step? Really Ford? Why no fully automatic seats with memory? Really Ford, not even on the Lariat?

My biggest peeve is that the Maverick has a tow cap of 4,000 and comes with an integrated brake controller. The Ranger has 7,000 tow but no TBC. WHY!!
Corporate greed? They know most truck owners will buy a TBC if they need it. The Maverick is a new market, so if they didn't include it there'd probably be a lot of wrecked trailers because people wouldn't know any better. That's my guess.

I wonder if it's because on the Ranger I can safely and easily tow smaller single axle trailers without a brake controller. Perhaps due to the less truck-like construction and suspension & a lighter GVW, and due to a different target audience (young bucks who would hook up a loaded dual axle car carrier to their Maverick without thinking it through) it became a matter of keeping the roads safer for everyone (and less liability, too)? Again, just guesses...

Hi Tom,

Corporate Greed...maybe more likely Bonus Greed. My guess is the program Chief Engineer needed to reduce costs and Marketing told him the take rate on a brake controller was so low so save some costs and save your bonus. So the compromise was put in the electrical circuits and sell the idea of Dealer Installed option. Once again, Ford Marketing failed to take the Market Pulse correctly... JMO.

I agree. I've said it multiple times before; I don't know why all manufacturers dumb-down the smaller trucks. I can get a compact car loaded with far more options than any small truck.
I drive a mid-size because it is what I want, not because it's all I can afford.

Totally agree Phill, had to be some kind of greed. But, to not even have a option designed. It took them a year and a half to cobble together a system from aftermarket vendors in Australia! And you have to tear th interior apart to install it! All the time they are toting the best in class towing rating. It was the main reason I bought the truck. Big big miss.

I also agree if they put that front on the 6G I plan on keeping my 2019 for a long time. I've seen semi tractors with more styling and aerodynamics. JMO

The whole front of the truck is ugly. Not really getting the excitement for this thing. Just seems like a Ford Ridgeline. The saving grace is the entry price but as a ranger replacement? No thanks.

I think it's hard for 'truck guys' to fully embrace it. I sort of like it, but it's not for me. It aint no truck, but there's a segment of suburbanites that might like a 4 door sudo SUV with a bed to haul mulch. Time will tell I guess. I think it's probably gonna be a hit.

Exactly right this isn't for "truck guys" this is designed for the weekend warrior or soccer mom who need a truck bed once in a while. I don't know why so many cant see this? It's not like they're taking the Ranger away and replacing it with the Maverick.

I said this before this will be a huge hit with smaller deliver companies, pest control companies like Orkin and the retires guy who doesn't want a mid size truck but still does some handyman work. Plus it's not as high as the Ranger so people will love being able to reach over the sides and into the bed and it'll be a lot easier to get in and out of. I can also see smaller pool cleaning companies using this, these will sell like hotcakes!

Right. I'm 59 going on 80, and I can't easily get in the ranger bed. I put on a step so I could climb in (yeah, I know about the wheel trick). I've said before, and it was mentioned in this talk, a scab with a 5.5 foot bed (and a true 4x4, not mentioned), that would get a hard look from me. But, that's not what they are going for with this and I get it. I'm also disappointed in AWD not offered with PHEV, but I'm sure they've thought about it, and it may happen in the future.

Plus one to what Dave said - when you look at the features, styling, interior, the advertising, FWD, unibody, etc., etc., this vehicle is clearly targeting the non-“truck guy.” We really need to stop comparing it to our Rangers.

Is the fleet market going to jump on it? At the price point and mpg promise, I really think so. My Ford sales guy said he’s been pitching this to his fleet customers for a while now and he’s convinced the sales will come in. He’s ordering a boat of them - likely all in white.

There’s only one question….how will it look with a giant NAPA cap on the roof? ?
