Hey all,

I wore out my OME shocks and struts after 125k miles and just ordered 5100s all around. Should I be good to run the ome coils on the front still or go back to stock springs?

can you compare the height and coil count of the OE springs with the OME springs?

the OME have a 605 spring rate, if I remember correctly.

First off I can't tell you if they're going to fit. Second when I just go back with what you're already had? You managed to get $125,000 miles out of them. That must be a good sign

Yeah I can remove one of the springs and ease off the death-trap-compressors. If I've got the same coil count and length as stock, I should be good to use either correct?

As for why I got 5100s, they're available individually on stage 3 and OMEs didn't seem to be so why not?

It's not quite as simple as that... Will they fit? yes. But if the length of the shock is the same and the coil count is the same, the ride will be a lot stiffer. The OE coils are 550 spring rate so, the OME will ride stiffer and won't drop as much under the weight. You also might be able to get the same lift with a lower perch on the 5100s.

It will take time but I would try the perch at the lowest setting, see how that settles and feels. Then, if needed, move up a perch and repeat.

Do we know if the 5100s are intended to be used with OEM springs?

Yes the 5100 is intended to be used with OEM springs. It is possible that some aftermarket springs that have the same upper and lower spring seats could work, but you would want to leave the circle at the lowest point in the strut.

The 5100s are made for the OE spring, as far as I know. You can ask Shock Surplus, they're usually good about answering questions.

Yes they are. The 5100's were put on my truck with the OE springs with like 500 miles on it. The FX4 shocks were unbearable. Had to change then immediately and that is what the forum recommended.

I have the 5100s on my truck with the stock springs. The truck had a 100,000+ miles on it when I had them installed. Factory shocks and struts were shot lol.
