I tow and offroad frequently and have several kids so I change it around 6k

Blackstone oil analysis each time
I have several kids and that never influenced my OCI. Do they take turns changing your oil, I never was able to train my kids to do so, I ended up changing their oil, diapers early on of course.

Haven't bothered to check the owners manual but typically several weights are acceptable, I've mostly used 5w-40 in my turbos, Mobil 1 5-40w is on the lighter side of a 40w oil, I suspect 5w-30 is the recommendation based largely on fuel economy .

Hell, I got blasted experimenting with using 5W-40 from guys on here.
I think I'd go your direction if I had an issue. 10w-30 seems odd to me. But it also seems odd to worry about what oil others use.

Been staying away from this thread as there never has been and never will be agreement on what oil brand to run. Just make sure it meets the manufacturer specs.

I just have one comment to those that think they know better what oil weight to run. These are not your grampa's engines or oil, or even your father's engines or oil. Heck for a lot of us not even the engines or oil we grew up with. The tolerances are tighter and oils better. Running thicker oil than specified can cause more problems than it solves. It may not get where it needs too to properly lube the engine.

And by the way, thicker oil will really not help the oil delution problem.

This right here is what I use
Used the regular Platinum in my old Sport Trac and had 212,000 miles on it when I traded it in. Got used oil analysis on both and didn't see a difference running them 5000 miles.

But grandpappy ran straight Valvoline 50 weight in his Fordson tractor for 50 years and never changed the oil, only the filter once a year and added a quart.

My mechanic told me to use 0w-50 in older cars. Maybe 0w-40, I don't remember. I never did it.
I run Valvoline Racing 20W-50 in our 60's era V-8s. This oil has high ZDDP also... good for flat tappet cams.

Why 10w-30 instead of the recommended 5w-30?

Where did you find motorcraft full syn 5w-30? WalMart never had it in stock so I just got Pennzoil and have been sticking to it since.
