I guess my dad has been thinking about downsizing from his F150 work truck (single cab, long bed) for awhile. These days, he pretty much just uses it to pull his boat and for winter driving (he puts more miles on his motorcycle than he does on the truck). A few weeks ago, after riding in my Ranger a bit, I guess he decided that he wanted to get a Ranger. My mom also recently had a major stroke and won't be driving for quite a long time, if ever, so they decided to trade both vehicles in. He says he got twice what he expected for the F150 and claims he couldn't refuse the deal he was offered for the Ranger. He also says this one was the only Ranger on the lot, which I find interesting, as I noted just yesterday that my local Ford dealer had a decent selection of Rangers (though they were almost all monochrome colors).

I had to poke fun at him because he has always said he didn't need 4wd, and he got a FX4. Even though 4wd would certainly be useful for him on those occasional gravel boat launches. I'm not sure what features he got for the interior, but I think it's kinda funny how it's equipped similarly to mine (black appearance package instead of chrome, it looks like).

prayers for your mother. recovering from strokes is a long haul. my mother had one about a year ago. shes made good progress. can walk and talk in semi full sentences but still needs help with things and to have an eye on her.

Best wishes for your mom’s recovery.

It’s interesting to see a dad taking the lead from his son on a truck purchase. ? It’ll be fun getting up to speed on all the quirky features. ?

Of course, he had to step up to FX4 and BAP.

Dads?‍♂

thanks for the positive wishes for my mom. she's doing fairly well. she's just over 2 months out from her stroke. she can walk short distances with a cane now and she talks really well until she's tired. her worst effect so far is that her left arm is still totally paralyzed. she just came home from the hospital and started up physical therapy at home.

I can't wait to start heckling him about how my 2019 is still better than his because of all the decontenting.

Glad to hear that your mom is recovering well; all the best to her and your family. A buddy's mom had one in early-2020, but never really recovered from it; she ended up passing away at the end of last summer.

Hope she continues to improve back to normal and grats to the new owner. I can understand wanting the smaller truck. I had no need for a full-size truck; especially with their price tags when decently equipped.

yes, this is part of his reasoning I'm sure.

my folks had been planning on retiring soon. my mom was going to be first and planned to retire in about a year. welp, she might be able to work again a year from now, so she's effectively retired now.

so going from 2 vehicles to 1 (at least with 4 wheels) simplifies things for them to start with.

I'd really like to see them take the steps to downsize their house so they can have single floor living, at least until my dad retires. they've wanted to retire to FL, which I don't think is necessarily a good idea, but they've been set on it for a long time. I don't blame 'em for wanting out of the midwest, but I'm meeting more and more people leaving FL because the storms make insurance rates pretty insane (even though others still keep going there).
