We haven't discussed any details yet as I'm doing this through X-Plan over email but obviously it will come up as leverage when we put the final deal together. With the additional $750 Ford discount on top of X-Plan I'm not sure how much wiggle room they will have but we may talk dealer add-ons or something. To be honest, as much as this wait is killing me, the rational part of me knows it's just more time to save before pulling the trigger. BTW, everyone on here is awesome! Between you and BlueOvalFourms you have kept me up to date.
One complication about using X Plan is that it expressly forbids any negotiation or additional discounts on the new vehicle.

X-Plan - Ford Partner
  • Unless prohibited by your state law, X-Plan customers may accept items or services of nominal value (i.e. $50 or less dealership cost) as a gift or reward in connection with an X- Plan sale or lease. All gifts or rewards offered by the dealership for sponsoring an X-Plan sale or lease must be comparable with gifts or rewards offered by the dealership on retail sales or leases, and may not exceed $50 in value (dealership cost).
However it also says dealer installed options are not part of the X Plan.

Are any other items covered through the Plan?

No. Dealer installed options, conversion packages, extended warranties, accessories, etc., are not covered by the Plan and must be agreed upon between you and the dealer.
Your best method of negotiation is to have them give you a generous discount on any dealer installed options you like.

Thanks for the info, didn't know they were so specific. Looking at the fine print and reading through another post it does look like the $750 incentive I got from the Ranger Drive event will apply for X-plan so at least that's something. Honestly, I have a connection to a dealer supplier that can probably get me a better deal on accessories so I may just go that route. It appears to be an honest mistake on the dealers part so we'll see when we get to the table.

My name is Jim. I live in East Central Illinois. I will be buying a new truck in 2019 or 2020. Interested in the new Ranger as I don't need a full size anymore.

Hey folks! My name is Jose and I'm from California. Need to be honest, I've been a hardcore Toyota fanboy (and Nissan) for years and swore off the big 3 brands a long time ago (Chevy/Ford/Dodge). My current daily driver is a 2004 Nissan Frontier and my wife drives a 2014 Toyota 4runner Trail edition .

I've been looking for a new truck to replace my Frontier as I'm in need of an upgrade. Truck still runs great this to this day but it's only luxury feature is power door locks and these trucks have aged like milk in terms of overall looks. The new Frontiers aren't even an option anymore and I'm not really fond of what Toyota is doing these days with their trucks. The current Tacoma feels like a step backwards from our 5yr old 4runner and I feel like it desperately needs a new drivetrain. It seems like Toyota uses their reliability and resale value as an excuse to keep using the same, tired engines year after year with no advancements in tech.

So that's led me to take a harder look at the other brands and I gotta say this new Ranger seems to check all the boxes except for the interior. The center stack and center console seem really outdated and more of an afterthought, but I can live with that. I'm thinking of picking up a Lariat FX4 sometime next year but I do wanna wait and see to test drive one and see initial reactions from members here.

So who knows, maybe I'll be back in a Ford soon enough :)

Here's our 4runner, no complaints about this one, we love everything about it.

Oh and did I mention my pride n joy 1996 Toyota Land Cruiser? This is my camping/off-road/crawler/weekend adventure toy. I've done every bit of work myself including the suspension fab so this is definitely one you hang on to forever.

Welcome! You might have had an opportunity to test drive a new Ranger at the SF or LA auto shows last month. If not, Rangers will be showing up at dealerships in January.

I couldn't agree with you more. I test drove the Tacoma and was really surprised. That engine/trans combo - or at least how they have programmed it - is TERRIBLE. The salesmen talked up reliability and resale a LOT. And resale is ridiculously high.

I've seen this comment a few times, but I really don't understand - what makes it "outdated" or an "afterthought"? I think it looks good - I REALLY like the handheld emergency brake rather than on the floor. The flat screen (on the XLT and Lariat) is quite good I think - Sync 3 gets good reviews - it has Apple Car Play and Android Auto. Maybe it is just one of those personal preference things - what looks good to one person doesn't look good to another.

That is a VERY cool rock crawler setup you have. Nice work on it.

Honestly the interior isn't that bad which is why I don't view it as a deal breaker, I'm just nit-picking. There are two things that really bug me though: the ugly hard plastic shells used as door panels and the area under the screen & shifter. It looks incredibly cheap to me and reminds me of budget cars from the late 90s/early 2000s. I feel like they could have done something more here especially on the Lariat as you are spending a decent amount of money. I think other car makers do a better job at making interiors looks good even on lower end trims through the use of different textures and accent colors. On the Ranger it looks like two sheets of ABS plastic with cutouts for various switches. Even using that gray accent color above the glove box would have made a huge difference.

I guess it really comes down to a personal thing. I don't see anything wrong with what the new Ranger console looks like. It all makes sense to me and looks nice. I supposed the backing of those controls could have been an accent color, but having it the same color as the rest of the dash does not look out of place or bad to me. I can't really comment on the door panels since I've not seen an actual truck, but every car these days is all plastic on the inside, so it is what it is to me.

Thanks for trying to explain what you don't like.

Hello! Names Aaron and I'll be ordering a 19 ranger here shortly. If anyone is on here from the fordrangerforum from back in the day, my username was beef_stew back there too! I had a white 99 and then a white 06 ranger. Looking forward to getting back on a forum talking about the 2019 ranger!

Fairly new member getting ready to order our new Ranger and very excited. Have a 2012 Colorado which pulls our 17 ft Casita TT. Does a nice job but we longer trips in out future what new and better mileage. Almost nailed down what we want and will finish at our dealer on Fri. We had a long wait for our trailer when we ordered it so know we will be on the forum a lot following all as they get theirs before us!! But it was worth the wait before for TT and will be this time!!

Hey Everyone,

Fellow 5th Gen Ranger enthusiast here. Waiting with baited breath for it to hit the streets next month. Still considering throwing caution to the wind and going with the pre-order. Wife wants higher end trim truck but I would be fine with XL with STX pkg, which means we probably end up with an XLT to compromise.

I have owned a few different trucks in the past and all served me well: 1987 Dodge Dakota LE, 1993 Chevy S-10, 1993 F-150 SuperCab XLT, 1994 Ram 1500 Laramie SLT, and 2000 Nissan Frontier Desert Runner SE. We have been truckless for nearly 5 years now and it is time to get back in a truck. We looked at full size half ton models but soon realized a mid-size truck would be enough. I liked the Tacoma when I test drove it a few weeks back but the seating position was not the best. Would like to get a Ranger sooner than later.

Thank you for all the information that has already been acquired through this site, very informative. Looking forward to reading about your experiences with the 2019 Ranger.

Eric
