Richard,
Sorry you had this experience...very frustrating that the dealer can't get you in quicker. Hope this can be solved in a timely manner and get you on your way! :)

post up some pics.
show us this shorted high draw positive cable.
You might not be too far off - when my battery failed a couple of years ago, the CAA guy shorted the big fuse/breaker on the positive terminal when he tried to boost it.

F...d over rebuilt Dodge. And since mine went to the mothership for over a week of the 3 I've owned it and can't get an update, I'm wondering if this Ranger was a Mistake.
why did it have to go back ?

Retired, work is a four letter word.

This is an important point, when jumping the Ranger you MUST clamp the hot jump lead to the positive BATTERY POST, not any of the various fused cables connecting to the breakout box. Thanks for the reminder.

So with my positive cable going to the starter disconnected the truck is electrically alive and no big current draw. So guessing the starter is bad. I like that there is separate cables to starter and alternator. Also another to systems it appears.

Glad to hear it's not something major and at least it should be covered for you. It's also much better than something else being fried in the electrical system.

Yes with that disconnected it appears the truck is normal electrically. Going to try to get starter out, but it is buried above this. In fact WTH is that?
